Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online I swear, if I wasn't running late for my second event of the night, I would have stood up in the theater and did a long slow clap after watching the Austrian horror, GOODNIGHT MOMMY. Rated: B+ Sep 1, 2017 Full Review Angie Han Slashfilm Goodnight Mommy filmmakers put viewers through hell with the implicit promise that they'll make it all worth it in the end. The biggest surprise, for me, was that they actually make good on that contract. Jun 13, 2017 Full Review Kristen Yoonsoo Kim Complex If you're squirmish...it may be best to stay away-but we dare you not to. Rated: 4/5 Feb 24, 2017 Full Review Bianca Garner Filmotomy A film that relies on the psychological aspects of the horror genre rather than cheap jump scares, and as a result, it’s far more effective in the long term. Oct 3, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... an unsettling horror film built on scars (physical and psychological) that upset the connection between a mother (Susanne Wuest) and her sons, adolescent twins named Lukas and Elias played by real-life twin brothers Lukas Schwarz and Elias Schwarz. Nov 4, 2023 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Goodnight Mommy is the best example of twin terror to come along in years and announces Fiala and Severin as an auteur duo in the making. Jacob B A beautifully dark suspense film from Austria that seems to be a bit too much inspired by Thomas Tryons classic tale “The Other”. While the twists are obvious and the reveal at the end is not that big of a surprise, the atmosphere and acting (especially from the young actors) and direction definitely elevate this creepy bed time tale. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Rafael L I knew this was going to be a slow movie, so I let it cook. And what a crazy, unexpected, and disturbing third act we get! This movie came so close to making me feel as disturbed as Speak No Evil and We Need to Talk About Kevin did! IhateitIloveitIhateitIloveit!! I still feel like there are some loose ends, though. Likeee, all that pizza!? Wtf hahaha. And in what world do a couple of nonprofit guys just walk into your house and wait for you so you can give them money? Hahahah Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Chris G A slow burn of foreign horror that starts out going in one direction before pivoting on a dime to something much more sinister. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Ray M It’s worth a watch. The building sense of dread is palpable as the audience is hit with more and more clues. As I figured out the ending nearly, maybe a few too many clues. If you don’t mind seeing through the veil early, it’s worth your time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Logan D After their mother returns from the hospital, her face covered with bandages, twin boys begin to suspect she isn't who she says she is. Very intense film with engaging performances from all three actors. Although their motivation is understandable the twins are some of the creepiest kids I've observed in cinema. Two warnings: 1) the situations get very intense. Not for the squeamish; 2) don't confuse this with the Naomi Watts version released in 2022. It was poorly received. Wait around til the 30 minute mark or so to see if it hooks you. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/30/24 Full Review GABRIEL S Completely monotonous film, meaningless ending, terrible acting (especially the twin protagonists) and no suitable soundtrack. The 2022 Remake is much better. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
