Tom C @Tomas620 9h Great cast, heartfelt and not sappy, a lesson in humility and empathy, and just a lot of fun. See more Allan C @RT15713161 Jul 1 A surprisingly strong Disney adaptation Holes (2003) ***1/2 Holes is a smart, heartfelt adaptation that stays remarkably faithful to Louis Sachar's novel while delivering an engaging family adventure. Though it loses some of the book's surreal edge, strong direction, a likable cast, and scene-stealing turns from Jon Voight make it one of Disney's better live-action films. Holes has a very simple but absurd plot line and that's what makes it so Charming. This movie is hilarious, most of the jokes in the movie (especially with some of the Absurd moments) lands perfectly and never sound corny and/or on the nose. And even "if" I didn't like the comedy, when Holes takes itself seriously and has it's character driven moments the movie gets you very invested. Zero is a well written character and on screen has the best moments in the movie. Stanley's also a likable protagonist that doesn't give off a quirky but also a mean spirited personality and there bond is heartwarming. I wish we had more duos like them. While this movie isn't perfect, (I do think the ending was a bit funky at points) Holes is a movie that is worth your time. 7.5/10 classic See more BANNER B @Banner-Blair May 8 Shia Labeouf stars in an instant classic film See more Read all reviews
