Audience Member William Powell and Myrna Loy have chemistry that has yet to be beat. A screwball comedy that is light and will keep you laughing -- yet it still has a plot. Nothing is sacrificed to make this one of the best of Hollywood's Golden Age. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Myrna Loy and William Powell had the charismatic "it" factor. Loy, in fact, was able to employ this repartee with most all her leading men, from Clark Gable to Cary Grant to Clifton Webb. She held the film together and projected unity. She had the "it" factor that studio bosses were blind to -- because their eyes were on the youngest and most sexy young women who they could effectively dominate. Loy was one actor who did not allow studio bosses to have their way with her. Undoubtedly, her career suffered because of it; but she retained her respect and dignity and her acting abilities were on par with the very best Hollywood had to offer. If you read the many biographies and tales of making particular movies, it is clear that Loy was the glue that saved many films from extinction, and she was the one actor who could get all feuding parties to put aside their differences and start shooting again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I'll start by saying seeing William Powell in drag is probably worth the price of admission on its own. Early on, you also have his playful repartee with Myrna Loy, in this the 10th of the 14 movies they made together. In 'Love Crazy', the happily married couple is about to celebrate its 4th anniversary, but get interrupted first by her mother-in-law (Florence Bates), and then by his old flame (Gail Patrick). In a comedy of errors, Loy thinks Powell has cheated on her, seeks a divorce, and then Powell attempts to postpone the proceedings by feigning insanity. It's fun to see Powell in various screwball moments, including getting his head stuck between elevator doors, pretending he's a teapot, and doing things like shoving round blocks into his mouth. Powell had tremendous range and carries the movie; Loy isn't bad herself, but has less to work with. The movie degenerates a bit towards the end, but it was reasonably engaging and fun to watch. Synopsis A happily married architect, Steve (William Powell), and his wife, Susan (Myrna Loy), plan a romantic celebration for their fourth anniversary, but their evening is interrupted when Susan's meddling mother, Mrs. Cooper (Florence Bates), stops by for a visit. Later, when Mrs. Cooper eavesdrops on Steve talking with an old flame, Isobel (Gail Patrick), she tells Susan, who files for divorce. Steve, still in love with Susan, decides he must feign insanity to stop the divorce proceedings.
