Critics Consensus

Visually dazzling but soulless, the largely inert Pinocchio reaffirms that you should always let your conscience be your guide… away from unnecessary remakes.

Wenlei Ma News.com.au Just as Pinocchio wasn’t a real boy to start, this wasn’t a real movie – and there’s almost no chance it learnt enough lessons to become one with a soul. Rated: 1.5/4 Sep 14, 2022 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers The pacing is hopelessly unwieldly, with unnecessary deviations from the original film, added characters who don’t really have purpose and do not propel the plot, and new songs that are not up to Disney standards. Audience Member Just now seeing the film in 2025 after seeing Wicked - and to my surprise, Cynthia is the Fairy! I had a smile of my face the entire time seeing Tom Hanks performing as Geppetto. Loved Jiminy and Pinocchio. I honestly do not see why everyone is destroying this film - I would even argue that I love it more than the original Classic. The movie has been brought to life. The sets, music, time spent at each scene were amazing. The animals were fantastic from the loveable pets down to the horrors of Monstro. I will have to rewatch the original after decades, I do recall certain important points did not happen such as the Fox being freaked out about pleasure island and the evil man saying "they don't come back as boys." My only con is possibly the ending, whereas we barely see the real boy and Jiminy gets no recognition for doing his temporary job. The movie just ~ends. I did however love the addons such as the female puppeteer whom was supportive along the way - there's even something to look forward to when they come "back to town." Although, she was just a friend in passing instead of important to the story. Find it funny that children are turned into Donkeys and taken away - yet the ending is like - "lets go home, we're minding our own business." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/06/25 Full Review Danica R It was alright, acting was not the best. And when they where on Pleasure Island, there where girls, and in the original movie their were only boys Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Adrian E Trash! Trash! TRASH!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Nick R No. Just no. Watch the original. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Desert P Just watch the original. The remake just added pointless scenes and characters that add nothing to the plot or moral of the story. BORING. Disney really has lost their spark and imagination and it's so sad.
