Critics Consensus
A social satire with razor-sharp teeth, Speak No Evil offers a darkly delicious treat for fans of misanthropic thrillers.
Audience Says
It's well-acted and definitely has something to say, but Speak No Evil isn't really scary -- and it'll be a tough watch for all but the most desensitized viewers.
Kristy Puchko Mashable Speak No Evil is a dark journey well worth the cost of admission. Oct 9, 2022 Full Review Scott Tobias The Reveal (Substack) A Type B nightmare come slowly yet ferociously to life. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 3, 2022 Full Review Nick Schager The Daily Beast A thriller that depicts the path to hell as paved with minor transgressions. Sep 16, 2022 Full Review Joseph Tomastik Loud and Clear Reviews The Danish Speak No Evil (2022) smartly utilizes dark social satire to slowly, quietly submerge viewers into genuinely disturbing horror. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Speak No Evil rips apart the false sense of security that people have when they think strangers are instant friends. The horror in this thriller isn’t delivered until the movie’s last third, but it packs a very bleak wallop. Sep 14, 2024 Full Review Joe Muldoon Battle Royale With Cheese Speak No Evil is an excruciating watch, and one worth surrendering ourselves to. A provocative satire of middle-class sensibilities, it forces its audience to look inwards in a way hitherto unexplored. Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
Jamie C I don't usually write movie reviews. Good or bad. But I can't help myself on this one. I can't understand how this movie got an 84%. The only reason I watched til the end was because I could not believe how unbelievable it was, and I was convinced there would be some big crazy twist at the end to save the whole movie. There was not. Every angle of the plot is completely unbelievable. No normal person would make the decisions the characters in this movie make. And the fact that 3 adults, and 2 adolescents couldn't band together and disable 1 man, completely blows my mind. To actually think 84% of people found this believable, scares me. That's a lot of people running up the stairs to die instead of running out the door for help. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/28/25 Full Review Megan K Only gave it four stars because the main couple of the story left me seething with anger. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/25 Full Review Jay W If you're the type that likes movies like the Whale. Movies that go through painstaking measures to mask weaknesses and ineptitudes in an attempt to repackage them as though they're virtues then this is for you. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review mous d what a crappy and empty movie, it sucks in all possible ways. the remake however is amazing, in the remake they took the story upgraded it and gave it more depth and yes it became amazing. also the acting sucks in this movie not swollowed. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Ian H Great movie with a creeping sense of dread and a bleak climax. Better than the remake Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Chris B Reviewers stating plot is ridiculous as people would not be so gullible in real life, I feel are missing the point altogether. It is social satire of how people will let others walk all over them as not to offend, contained within the vehicle of a brutal horror film. The weaponless antagonists may also be an allegory regarding the recent demographic changes within western Europe, but that is just my interpretation. I have not seen the remake and probably won't bother. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review Read all reviews

Synopsis On a vacation in Tuscany, two families -- one Danish, one Dutch -- meet and become fast friends. Months later, the free-spirited Dutch family extends an invitation to the more conservative Danish one for a holiday weekend getaway at their countryside home. However, it doesn't take long before things gradually get out of hand as the joy of reunion is replaced with misunderstandings. The Dutch hospitality quickly turns unnerving for the Danes, and they find themselves increasingly caught in a web of their own politeness in the face of eccentric... or is it sinister... behavior.
