Manya’s speech on the death of democracy, I am sure at the time written, was never thought to be a warning to future generations. This movie is an ode to lily white America; simple-minded cultural norms of American romance and family life during WWII. The dialogue, scene structure and direction are strictly "home-front" propaganda. But man, Ginger Rodgers was hot!! Synopsis Jo (Ginger Rogers) works at an aircraft factory during World War II when her husband Chris (Robert Ryan) is called off to fight. Leaning on the support of her friends and co-workers, she suggests that they share a home together in the hopes of saving money. Her friends -- Barbara (Ruth Hussey), Doris (Kim Hunter) and Helen (Patricia Collinge) -- despite all having husbands at war, are extremely different. Together, the women help each other through difficult times despite the occasional spat.
