Critics Consensus
A stoic Jude Law and diabolically good Nicholas Hoult turn the tides of history in this grippingly intense thrill ride.
Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It feels like a time capsule but is extremely relevant today. Jan 17, 2025 Full Review Danny Leigh Financial Times And yet here, as in Kurzel’s other work, you rarely see actual violence. The horror is what lurks inside the characters, the stifling air of rooms where something is rotten. Rated: 3/5 Jan 15, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) Nicolas Hoult is very, very good as this amiable fascist... Jan 14, 2025 Full Review Pedro Gallego Espinof Kurtzel expands a series of moral greys without losing the vileness of the supremacists, incredibly elevating a proposal that is already thrilling and powerful in itself, thanks to how he executes the suspense and action. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Feb 7, 2025 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse In many ways The Order is a run-of-the-mill police procedural about two men on opposite sides of the law, but it keeps the action taut enough, and the violence visceral enough, to make up for the more familiar elements. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 5, 2025 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate What makes this crime thriller timely is that many considered the concept of a neo-Nazi movement with tacit presidential approval just a fantasy until 1/6/2021 - when Capitol rioters waved copies of 'The Turner Diaries' - and Donald Trump was reelected. Olivia W Very engaging film with a solid performance by Jude Law . Not a hint of his being British in his speaking. So nice to see something original now and then. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Austin Very good! Jude Law is a great actor and this film was no exception. The end was thought provoking. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/30/24 Full Review Yvette N. I liked real life stories liked this one. It was interesting to see how things unfolded in 1984 related to this Terrorist group. I learned quite of few things. It was a good movie to watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review JJ Good pace and tension. Held my interest. Jude Law excellent. Synopsis For over a year, a series of bold daylight bank robberies and armored car heists leaves law enforcement baffled and the public panicked throughout the Pacific Northwest. As the attacks become increasingly violent, FBI agent Terry Husk (Jude Law) becomes convinced that the robberies are the work of a domestic terrorist gang that plan to use the loot to finance an armed uprising against the U.S. government. Based on a true story, The Order follows Husk and his team into the tangled world of white supremacists to try to head off a violent uprising that could shatter the nation. As the militia builds a war chest of over $4 million, Husk pursues the malevolent racist Bob Mathews to a final bloody standoff that will go down in U.S. history.
