Critics Consensus

Attempts to offer a fresh look at a traditional tale notwithstanding, A.D.: The Bible Continues doesn't do enough to set itself apart from its many predecessors.

Patrick Kevin Day Los Angeles Times With its political maneuvering and gritty feel, there's more influence of Game of Thrones than Cecil B. DeMille here. Apr 6, 2015 Full Review David Kallison AV Club A.D. does not stick with one style which hurts the overall flow of the show. Any realism is betrayed by the cheesy effects and poor direction. Rated: C Apr 6, 2015 Full Review Amy Amatangelo Hollywood Reporter When you take on a familiar story like the Bible, you need to offer a reason for people to watch. A.D. doesn't do that. Apr 3, 2015 Full Review Matt Roush TV Insider Handsomely produced (on what appears to be a considerably larger budget than The Bible), diversely cast-with nary a "name" actor in sight-and fresh in its approach to the texts, A.D. deserves more than most of its ilk to be called inspired. Apr 7, 2015 Full Review Kari Croop Common Sense Media The series gets points for sticking closely to its source material and promoting positive messages that, while steeped in Christian tradition, have widespread appeal -- among them faith, hope, love, and loyalty. Rated: 3/5 Apr 6, 2015 Full Review Jessica Rawden CinemaBlend It's an old narrative that hasn't been modernized as much as it has been repackaged in a snappy manner. It mostly works. Deb D Well done! The script, the acting, the cinematography was high quality. The story was compelling. I was pleased when it came out in 2015, but I loved it even more when I watched it again in 2024. I was able to binge watch at my own leisure. It still holds up! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/24 Full Review Bill F So typical. Elitist critics and the media world hate God and love showing the debauchery they're now producing. The audience rating of 85 just shows how out of touch the entertainment world is with mainstream America. The series got better and better as I watched it. It just showed human nature in such a revealing way. God's Word tells just how desperately wicked the heart is. This TV series does an excellent job of showing just that. I'm hoping Dallas Jenkins can restart this superb TV series after The Chosen airs its final episode. The Bible is chalked full of stories that could saturate the entertainment airways indefinitely. Why there aren't more movies and TV series regarding what we find in Scripture is a real head scratcher now that there's an alternative to the dark legacy media outlets. A must see TV series. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/08/23 Full Review A A love the concept of this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/04/22 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely love it wish more people would watch it made me want to learn more about Jesus Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the most ridiculous propaganda I have ever seen. I don't know where to start with the fabrications... Apparently, they did not hire an expert on Hebraic and Roman anthropology. Or perhaps as I fear, they most likely did and the all-seeing eye has infiltrated every faction of life as Johann stated. It is no wonder the church is dying quickly. (Not that it is not supposed to) It has the wife of the Cohen GaDol walking around in a yellow summer dress without her head covered, speaking to the Cohenim at the temple, and even rebuking them. At the outer court, she looks Cyapha in the eye and touches him, twice. For any one of those, a woman would be stoned. The Cohen GaDol is a fashionable twenty-seven with blue eyes and walks around with his head unbound and enters the home of Pontius Pilate. Pilate's wife is sitting at a table and Cyapha speaks to her. sigh... Pilate has no guard detail while he walks through Judea and no identification of his position. Roman governors wore tunic and togas for formal occasions and tunics and cloaks for casual wear. They would have a purple stripe on the hem of their tunics and toga and in this production, the governor is wearing Centurian armor, which is not accurate. Yochanon (John) is black, which is historically fine, however, we can surmise why this is done in this age. I do think someone black should be included, since Yisraelites are all different colors of people, historically speaking. Then the Cohen GaDol (high priest) goes to the cross to inspect it. sigh... again, something that would never happen. This series is nothing but propaganda and was painful to watch. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing Season, Definitely Need Season 2, Season 1 had Superb Characters, The environment felt surreal, The way its tied to the gospel accounts Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
