Critics Consensus

Boomerang succeeds as both an affectionate continuation of its cinematic forebear and a modern reimagining with an engaging ensemble who excel at the smart repartee brought by creators Ben Cory Jones and Lena Waithe.

Carmen Phillips Autostraddle I couldn't be more excited to have Lena Waithe's creativity out there pulling for us. Feb 20, 2019 Full Review Neal Justin Minneapolis Star Tribune It's great to see a show centered on upwardly mobile blacks, although an early scene in a strip joint seems out of place. The dramedy is much more appealing when it takes you into the boardroom or eavesdrops on the group's game night. Feb 14, 2019 Full Review Trey Mangum Shadow and Act The razor-sharp, fast-paced dialogue often sounds like a set of trending topics on Black Twitter, but it doesn't come off as pandering; it feels authentic and relevant. Feb 13, 2019 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media Relaxed sequel has strong content, challenges stereotypes. Rated: 3/5 Mar 6, 2019 Full Review Dominic Patten Deadline Hollywood Daily it's a tale tightly told, rather you're a fan of the Boomerang of not. In fact, I would say... it might work even better if you never saw the film... the bones are strong on this one. Feb 13, 2019 Full Review Joel Keller Decider It's fun to see the basic tenets of the movie filtered through Lena Waithe's worldview. Feb 13, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member We love this show!!! Lena Waithe did it again! I also love that Halle Berry came back around full circle. Boomerang is a classic and I am much more interest in knowing what happened to the characters after the happy ending. Marcus stayed a dog huh? Welll... I'm Looking forward to seeing Halles character in cameos as the mother of a young woman. Holding my breathe for season 2. Â? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It's not a perfect series but it visualizes young adults in a great way showing that there are those of this generation trying to make it to the top tiers and it also thanks to great writing and performances that this show can be around for a while. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Very Very Refreshing. The perfect release of a show during Black History Month. Love all the new actors and actresses debuted in the show. Definitely gonna be a show I will be tuning into every episode. Personally Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Great show! New and hip for millennials, but still pays homage to the film. ItÂ?â??s a show both young and ones familiar with the film will love! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
