Critics Consensus
Criminal Minds tries on a more serialized skin in this soft reboot, reinventing itself for the better while preserving its unsavory virtues.
Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It’s all well-worn, but I’ll watch Mantegna in anything. Feb 10, 2023 Full Review Joshua Alston Variety Evolution is a lively and competent extension of a recently ended series, but little more, and it’s certainly not a leap forward. Nov 23, 2022 Full Review Max Gao AV Club In what could be considered its 16th season, Criminal Minds accomplishes a difficult feat for any long-running procedural: It finds a way to add new (and somewhat surprising) layers to characters who have graced the screen for more than a decade. Rated: B+ Nov 23, 2022 Full Review Monique Jones Common Sense Media A solid continuation of the procedural... Rated: 4/5 Jan 6, 2023 Full Review Joel Keller Decider ... The story is definitely a juicy one, and the Criminal Minds cast is just too good to not be able to do some of their best work with such an involved story. Nov 29, 2022 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba Of all the long-running CBS (and NBC) police procedurals, Criminal Minds is the best among them, and in serialized form without ads or language restrictions, it’s even better. Vanessa 1 Don't enjoy the new vibe... the darker coloring is not my thing... Also: I MISS Spencer 😭 And: Why didn't Penelope and Luke work out? I was so happy for them at the end of Season 15 and now you're telling me, they are back to zero? Come on... Other than that it's fine 🤷 The "Shut down the BAU" Trope is kinda overused by now though... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Austin B One of the collest overhauls for a tv series continuation ever, especially after such a long run. This refreshing new take and format brings the family of Behavioral Analysis Agents back with a new foe unlike any other, a creepy and intense new serial killer concept, a network of killers sharing and swaping ideas, and a sinister mastermind at the forefront. A brilliant new character, the only thing bothering me is the lack of Simmons and of course everyones favorite profiler, Spencer Reid. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review Laura S I was a big fan of the original season. Evolution is dull, the storyline has been long winded and boring and the writers appear to have forgotten who the characters actually are. Save some time and avoid this one!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/24 Full Review Audience Member I love the show, glad its back but.. I can hardly see the cast 90% of the time as its so dark!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/29/24 Full Review Laila H Love the mature direction that this season took! The characters are more dynamic, the filming is fantastic. As and OG criminal minds lover this season really took the show to a new level! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/28/24 Full Review D L A classy show for 15 seasons, went from classy to trashy in it's 16th season. Foul language throughout Episode 1. Everybody doesn't use foul, derogatory, ignorant language like that. The actors and actresses should be ashamed as well, for going along with it and allowing their classic ledgendary show to be made rubbish. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/04/24 Full Review Read all reviews
