Critics Consensus

Original Sin cares less about injecting fresh blood than reviving a tried-and-true formula, making for a prequel that's just solid enough to scratch the Dexter itch with a scalpel.

Louis Peitzman New York Magazine/Vulture The resolutions themselves, however, are mostly clunky, reflecting the overall clumsiness of the season. Rated: 2/5 Jan 25, 2025 Full Review Lauren Sarner New York Post “Dexter: Original Sin” isn’t unwatchable. It’s filled with entertaining performances, but the story feels like it’s beating a dead horse, rather than offering up an exciting prequel that has a compelling reason to exist. Jan 3, 2025 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) Turns out there’s still blood -- just a few drops -- to be squeezed from everyone’s favourite vigilante serial killer. Jan 3, 2025 Full Review Alberto Carlos Espinof ...a solid and absorbing crime series whose biggest crime is that it's a prequel.[Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network The fact that this series has flashbacks is even more ridiculous than the hair Patrick Gibson sports in the first episode. Rated: 6/10 Jan 2, 2025 Full Review Marty Brown Common Sense Media Dexter's tale is quickly becoming the most overtold origin story after Batman. Rated: 2/5 Dec 30, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Marc O The whole franchise is just so good, I was all worried original sin might kill it but actually loved it.. The whole Deb part of the storyline is kind of corny but loved the rest Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/25 Full Review Robi H I absolutely love this show and getting to see all the characters young and starting out Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Smokey D If you’re a fan of the original show you’ll enjoy this prequel. It won’t blow you out of the water but it is nice to be back in Miami in the world of Dexter. The casting has been pretty good also, the actors do a good job with bringing back the characters that we all love with their own little twist. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Jeff P I was *very* reluctant to tune into this one after possibly the worst concluding episode in history from the original series (next to Game of Thrones). Interestingly, other characters are much more spot-on recreations of the original actors than Deb and Dexter. James Martinez nails Batista. And Alex Shimizu - that Masuka laugh had me gagging! The narration from Michael C. Hall works well here as the "voice in Dexter's head". It's a fun origin series and pleasantly surprising. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review alexandre n I'm at the third episode and it looks like one of those anime which repeat a story again and again. At least they had to put younger actors unlike those anime which aren't even using different draws. For the moment it's quite boring but I liked the show. It might make me feel younger... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/10/25 Full Review Cali - T Truly clever! I am a Dexter super fan, have watched the original season multiple times. Dexter New Blood really missed the mark, however Original Sin helped fill the void left by the ending of Dexter. It would be a crime if this show wasn’t renewed!
