Critics Consensus

A simplified exploration of a complicated tradition, Indian Matchmaking is beautifully shot, but its lack of cultural context - historical or current - undermines any real impact.

Aditi Natasha Kini Bitch Media By presenting the most troubling aspects of Indian culture in the light-entertainment styling of a cutesy reality show, Indian Matchmaking falls short. Mar 16, 2021 Full Review Yashica Dutt The Atlantic Indian Matchmaking allows a few jagged edges to remain as it tries to assure skeptical viewers that, ultimately, Indian arranged marriages aren't that bad. And that is the most chilling aspect of the show. Aug 3, 2020 Full Review Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express Especially galling is the way independent-minded women are shown the door. Jul 27, 2020 Full Review Akhil Arora AkhilArora.com Netflix makes a lot of cringeworthy, regressive, trope-heavy reality TV — from Too Hot to Handle to Love Is Blind — and it keeps making them because people keep watching them. If Indian Matchmaking gets a season 2, you know where to look. Feb 17, 2023 Full Review Radhika Menon Decider Indian Matchmaking is not the be-all, end-all show for Indian representation, and certainly isn't the first place to look if you're trying to learn about South Asian culture. But the truth is that it reveals many blemishes in the way... Feb 23, 2021 Full Review Diane Pershing Malibu Times I admit I began watching this show as a lark-a friend recommended it as a perfect, much-needed escape from recent reality. But I have stayed around for some pretty profound truths about human nature... Nov 20, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Lakritz Successful, educated, grounded women having trouble finding some one on their level who want to settle down turn to this match maker only to be told to not have such "high" expectations and give superficial, immature guys a chance (or more than one). The guys mostly get pushed into match making by their parents and aren't actually interested in getting married, they value looks over character and lack emotional intelligence. The match maker matches female lawyers with stand up comedians or guys who ghosts them and still finds a way to blame the women for anything that goes wrong. It's horrible. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/30/23 Full Review Heather F My husband and I love this show. I usually despise dating shows like the trashy Bachelor/Bachelorette. Instead, this show follows the journey of finding a mate in a clean and wholesome way. In addition, the interviews within the episodes brings a smile to you face and you get a small glimpse into a fascinating culture. I seriously cannot wait to watch season 4 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/23 Full Review sachin j Snobby, only suitable for NRI's with big bank balance and the ultra rich. Very far from reality Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/13/23 Full Review Dr. Ilan K Loser from India who thinks he looks like a god has a swastika bracelet. Good job Netflix on catching that. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/23 Full Review Juliana S It's very entertaining and easy to follow. I binged the whole season in 2 days. Can't wait to watch the other seasons! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Did not watch the show. But this is a midfinger to the patriarchial arranged marriage system.
