Critics Consensus
Though Industry's social critiques tend toward the superficial, sharp writing and an excellent ensemble make it easy to enjoy its soapy workplace drama.
Debi Enker The Age (Australia) The first season deftly taps into a range of topical issues: gender relations, workplace relations, sexuality, the exploitative nature of some employment. And it gives them nuance and complexity. Mar 25, 2021 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald Self-interest and self-absorption remains the order of the day, and it's this lack of heart that leaves Industry feeling bleak and empty at its core. Rated: 3/5 Jan 27, 2021 Full Review Rebecca Harrison Sight & Sound Watching the show is a bit like being sober and listening to someone at a party who's four drinks in and has a rolled-up note in their hand: they have an awful lot to say, but I can't help wondering why, exactly, I'm meant to care. Dec 17, 2020 Full Review Olly Richards NME (New Musical Express) It makes the world of banking look deeply unappealing, but makes it very fun to watch others suffer through it. Rated: 4/5 Apr 28, 2021 Full Review Marlow Stern The Daily Beast While the show is set in the cutthroat world of London forex trading, involving a bunch of aspiring bankers, it provides a fascinating little peek inside the halls of power... Dec 30, 2020 Full Review Shannon Melero The Muse/Jezebel I wasn't expecting Industry to get me so quickly, but I also wasn't expecting how fast it lost me. Dec 4, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
S L So boring, I know it’s meant to show the shallow, empty part of the financial industry, but nothing nice happens to anyone, really you finish watching it and realise there’s absolutely no point wasting your time, honestly not recommended, there’s much more cool stuff to watch Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Himura K If you want to see gorgeous men and women tear at each other, abuse one another socially and psychologically this is for you. Awful, vain, hedonistic people (each and every single character in the show) being toxic and literally fucking each other in every episode. If revenge porn is your thing, go for it. The show wanted to show the stakes were high, but, staying 72 hours at office while sleeping at toilet had me roll my eyes. A lot of random stupid choices. It should have had likable characters. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Lefty L bloody brilliant. i mean bloody and brilliant. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Cat K Basically porn with rich, young, obnoxious, hedonistic Karens. Couldn't care less about these characters or this laughable fantasy world. I will not be watching any more of this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Jack S Slickly made and well performed, Industry is perhaps the only series I’ve ever viewed in which I thought the sex/nudity was excessive! So much of it is frankly both unpleasant and distracting. I wish the characters all spent more time in the office on the job where most of the really compelling dramatic action takes place! Apart from that, Industry is otherwise well written, entertaining and generally well performed. Although Herrold’s young character is so extravagantly devious, she practically qualifies as a comic book supervillain! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Soumyaa j The producers just thought "Let's merge finance with sex" and while that might appeal to the target audience in the sector (and the youth drawn to the sector) from a realistic point of view, this has been produced to appeal to a certain demographic way too much to cater to a larger audience.
