Andrew Male Times (UK) Blessed with witty dialogue, the show’s four newcomers have created believable, human characters who you will want to root for across all eight episodes. Aug 5, 2022 Full Review Lucy Mangan Guardian It is tremendous fun. It has great Stranger Things energy (or should that be The Goonies and Stand By Me meta-energy?) but everything feels fresh. Rated: 4/5 Aug 5, 2022 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News While comparisons will be made to “Stranger Things,” “Girls” stands on its own and isn’t a clone. Rated: 3/4 Aug 4, 2022 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu Though the glittering cast and the action sequences are a treat to watch, this actioner tries to do too many things incoherently. Oct 5, 2023 Full Review Nuha Hassan Nuha Hassan (Medium) While the narrative begins to show that the story has high stakes involved for the young and older versions of themselves, the show takes way too much time with exposition. Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Ilan Preskovsky Channel24 (South Africa) Though the TV version of Paper Girls sacrifices some of the zippy, sometimes breathless pacing of the comic book, its decision to slow things down actually works very strongly in its favour. Nashville I Swing and a miss. The cinematography was probably the worst part of the show, constantly using a washed out lense to dull the colors, save for a few key moments. There's somewhat of a main plot, but you're never given a central idea to invest in and root for. For so much of the show you keep waiting for this pivotal moment to come and shake things up, but honestly it never comes. The villain was also badly miscast. For most the show you're running from someone who's just too difficult to take seriously as the big bad. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review Jason B This feels like a poor interpretation of source material that the show runners have never seen--a very odd feeling having grown up in the 80s. If you're going to attempt it, at least mimic the media you're borrowing so heavily from or make something new instead. The writing is at times enjoyable but other times extremely clumsy. It's very uneven and that made it frustrating to continue to watch. Also, the production was just plain cheap-looking. The parts with the time travelers almost felt purposefully generic; like a kids television show with no budget. There was some decent character development but that was often undermined by the odd pacing and some silly dialogue. The moments of the kids meeting people from the future were compelling at times, so there's that. I dunno, I'm sure certain people will like this for the nostalgia it offers but it wasn't for me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review Maxima I Watch it, you've never seen anything like it before. I'd rather watch 10 seasons of this than 1 of stranger things. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review PNW T Yikes.. We made it through the first 2 episodes and perhaps if I was a pre-teen this might be interesting but OMG each of the kids is an archetype. It is also so "dark" that we tried to turn up the color and light to be able to see it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/02/23 Full Review Post-Apocalyptic T It's a crime that this show was canceled! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Xtina S This show is good. It is not as flawless as the 1st season of Stanger things was but it's not far from it, and actually much better than all the rest of ST. The casting director did a pretty amazing job, all the girls are perfect choices for their characters. I really like how they went for a more simpler plot than the original one in the comic books. It's such a shame how the show failed due to lack of promotion. I only got to know about it by watching a booktuber talking about the comic books. The only thing that was a bit off track is the girls' frequent whining. 12-14 year old girls hanging out together are not whiny, at that age we just want to have fun, adventure and to laugh a lot and that is all I can recall when it comes to my teenage girl crew: pure fun, close to 0 arguments. Anyways it is easy to like this show and I am sure if it could reach a bigger audience it would be loved even more. We need season 2. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
