Critics Consensus

Though the intended grade isn't always clear, Saved By The Bell's capable cast of newcomers make Bayside's halls their own in a reboot that's smart, self-aware, and seriously funny.

Heather Hogan Autostraddle Saved by the Bell's reboot works because it's self-aware and because it mocks the lack of self-awareness of the original, but it also works because it's legitimately funny and good-hearted in a time that's rife with cynicism. Dec 15, 2020 Full Review Aja Romano Vox The show can also be almost Dadaist, in the worst way, courtesy of "jokes" that are frequently little more than random pop culture references made for the sake of making them. Dec 15, 2020 Full Review Alison Herman The Ringer A pop-culture landscape oversaturated by adaptations of old IP can start to feel depressing. Enter Zack Morris. Dec 12, 2020 Full Review Jason Shawhan Nashville Scene You'll laugh, feel better about the world, and maybe even forge your own secret handshake. Sep 9, 2021 Full Review Kristen Maldonado Kristen Maldonado You'll fall in love with the new cast and kind of roll your eyes at the cheesiness of the old cast, but this is a show that really works when it comes to its messages of equality, privilege, and pop culture references. Feb 10, 2021 Full Review Amanda Mazzillo Film Inquiry This newest incarnation of Saved by the Bell expertly blends its nostalgia with quick-paced comedy and an update of the original show for a modern teen audience. DennisFeinsteinCEO Unbelievably horrid. This show, it's cast, and anyone who took part in this is INSANE... I couldn't believe what I was watching. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/24 Full Review Audience Member it was the most woke show i have yet to see very disturbing could not watch past the first episode. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a very bad reboot. My kids currently watch the 80's-90's version, and though it is outdated in many ways, the lessons it teaches and the entertainment it provides is exponentially better than this "reboot." Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Way, way better than the reviews. Never stops being funny. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review M H As a fan of the original this is garbage. Another example of social engineering. Remakes used to be made for lack of originality or the attempt to have a baked in audience. These days its more of a lack of originality and an attempt to erase a past some do not like. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/22 Full Review Audience Member While I can't remember much of the original series I do know I grew up watching it and I didn't expect much from the reboot. I was so surprised by the awesome cast, corny and over acted as it is, hyper attention to be inclusive but ultimately this completely silly commentary on modern social issues like racisim or transgenderism is done with such levity that I couldn't help but grin the entire time the cast hams it up with clever but outlandish gangs. For me this is easily one of my favorite modern day series and one of the freshes reboots of any movie or series I've ever seen. Season 1 was fantastic and I'm ready 2 episodes into season 2 and can't get enough. While all the characters are standout, new and old cast members nail their ridiculously stereotyped characters I would say special note goes to Lexi the highschool transgender cool girl/mean girl for totally mashing it with a hilarious richie rich girl performance and Daisy the over archiving goody goody transfer student of Dominican and Puerto Rican decent who wants to fix all the worlds problems one fundraiser at a time. Honestly this show is way over the top and total cheese but I love it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
