Critics Consensus
The silly old bear isn't quite up to new tricks with this foul-mouthed sitcom, but fans of Seth MacFarlane's caustic comedy will get plenty of kick out of Ted's latest antics.
John Nugent Empire Magazine Painfully, obnoxiously unfunny. This is one bear we didn’t need to bring back to life. Rated: 2/5 Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Anita Singh Daily Telegraph (UK) This is a prequel that nobody asked for... Rated: 1/5 Feb 10, 2024 Full Review Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) Ted, as such, is basically halfway between the evil baby Stewie and the talking dog Brian. Feb 9, 2024 Full Review Tom Spoors Loud and Clear Reviews The Ted TV show should have been a catastrophe, but the amount of heart poured into it has resulted in one of the most likeable sitcoms we’ve seen in years. Rated: 4.5/5 Jan 1, 2025 Full Review Nelson Acosta Koimoi Ted is more of the same if you are already a fan of Seth MacFarlane, but while familiar with its tone and formula, it also means it is still quite funny. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 4, 2024 Full Review Derek Sante KSNV (Las Vegas) Focused on a boy and his bear, but expanded to include the whole family as they traverse New England youth and high school. Josh D Watching Ted Season 1 is rather like waking up to find that your childhood stuffed animal has not only learned to talk but also developed a deep appreciation for profanity and questionable life choices. It’s absurd, a little bit chaotic, and somehow still incredibly charming, much like the bear himself. The show cleverly balances raunchy humor with an oddly heartfelt coming-of-age story, proving that even a foul-mouthed, beer-loving teddy bear can provide surprisingly good life advice—albeit sandwiched between jokes that would make your grandmother faint. The 90s setting adds a wonderfully nostalgic touch, filled with floppy disks, bad haircuts, and the kind of teenage awkwardness that no amount of time truly erases. Seth MacFarlane’s voice work is as sharp as ever, delivering laugh-out-loud moments with the kind of deadpan brilliance usually reserved for grumpy old men at the pub. In the end, Ted Season 1 is exactly what you’d expect: hilarious, ridiculous, and strangely heartwarming—proving once and for all that the best friendships are the ones that refuse to grow up. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/25 Full Review Jan C This is comedy gold! I frickin love it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Isaac Ernest S Loved it 😍, this was actually the first comedy series I laughed so hard to besides from modern family, filled with so much humor and talented actors, although one thing I didn't like about this show was the swearing words, I mean you can swear but pls keep God's name out your mouth. As a Christian (Catholic) I felt very offended, and also on episode 6 where Ted kept saying he was Jesus, I mean this is offensive and disrespectful for some of us Christians. But other than that this was one of the best comedy series this year, I hope there will be a season 2❤️❤️ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Joshua V Ted season 1 overall review is one of my favorite shows of 2024 I watch it 12 times try to watch it throughout the whole 2024 took me 12 months to finally finish it. It’s a really good show funny if it’s like if you like Family Guy and you liked it the movies are going to like the ted show I am excited for season two 5 star 10 out 10 star 100 out 100 star Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Geoffrey N This is so godawfully unfunny. I'm forced to watch the whole season because I bought it on Blu-ray for 30 bucks on the strength of Seth McFarlane and the previous Teds. If I was just watching it on TV I would have bailed during the first episode. But I'm just letting it drone on in the background as I do other things. It's not possible to watch this garbage with full attention. But by letting it play on in the background I'm getting the job done with a minimum of agony. At least there's no laugh track so there's no laughter on either end of the experience, just quietly misfiring every stupid joke. It's kind of a meditation on bad comedy. Yeah, it's like you took an unfunny sitcom from the old days and removed the laugh track, just letting it play in dead silence. Why can't we have another season of the Orville instead of this horrible garbage? I liked that Scott Grimes also came over from the Orville and his character is so different that it takes a while to realize it's him. That's the only fun to be found here. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Ben H This series has easily become my favourite comfort show recently, as a viewer who loved the movies but couldn’t see past Mark Wahlbergs past, this series takes what was hilarious about the movies, and shows a level of mature comedy that fits with the times while still pushing the barrier on “dark humour” I cannot wait for season 2!
