Craig Jenkins New York Magazine/Vulture Like Saturday Night Live, it's pretty fun when it's not second-guessing and overthinking itself into a liberal fog. May 11, 2021 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Laugh a lot, squirm a little. Rated: 3/4 May 8, 2021 Full Review Mandie Caroll Common Sense Media This intriguing show is less laugh-out-loud comedy, more laugh-through-tears satire, and it can be an uneven ride. Rated: 3/5 Jun 8, 2021 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba Overall, I liked That Damn Michael Che. I watched all six episodes in one sitting, and I laughed a lot, but I also cringed occasionally because Che loves to poke his finger into open wounds and then blame us for squealing. May 11, 2021 Full Review Kevin Fallon The Daily Beast That Damn Michael Che is making the most of a chance to do something different with comedy at a particular cultural moment. Josh M Sketch show , smart , whit. Why are their not more reviews ? People. Blow this up with 5 stars. Tyler Durden Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/17/23 Full Review Corey W Sketch comedies are notoriously difficult to gauge and given the inherent nature of the medium they can be described as uneven at best. Michael Che's HBO show avoids most of this by having a theme, and often a story, throughout the episode. Combine that with Che's ability to tap into the current cultural zeitgeist and you have a very funny show that mostly hits its mark due in large part to the topicality of the themes embedded within each episode. There are bits that go on too long, or bits that don't speak to every sense of humor (as would be expected in any series like this), but much more works here than doesn't putting That Damn Michael Che into the top tier of current sketch comedies. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This was hilarious and well-acted. I loved it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member honestly the first season is barely watchable, what with his extremely poorly timed bootlicking "not all cops are bad" schtick that seems to be the main recurring joke of the season and had no place being released mid BLM protest. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review the s Only experience with Che I've had is from SNL weekend update. I always saw him as a n affable Wayne Brady type of comedian but Che takes to his own platform to show everyone how edgy he can be and how edgy his comedy really is when he's not being censored by the man. If nothing else, this series answers the question: what would the Dave Chappelle show be like if it wasn't hosted by a funny comedian. Because it's a straight rip off (sans audience) and Che has even adopted Dave's edgy political views.(he hates masks in public! He hates Black Lives Matter! He refuses to be a black cliché!! And he wants you to know how edgy he is!!!) Chappelle realized he could expand his fan demographic if he was sympathetic to the MAGA causes and demographic. It's always seemed way more like a business decision than personal beliefs so it's hard to tell where Che's political intentions really land because clearly when he grows up, he just wants to be Dave Chappelle. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member What is this? Che is a painfully bad actor while acutal actors and comedians work around him. Eddie Murphy could be funny on stage and in front of the camera. Che does niether. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
