Critics Consensus

The Afterparty sometimes strains to keep the jamboree of yuks going, but its ambitious melding of genres and extensive guest list of actors make for a worthwhile nightcap.

Liz Shannon Miller Consequence Even when the gimmick threatens to overwhelm the narrative, theres plenty packed into those seven episodes to fuel endless debates and theories about the true identity of the killer. Mar 19, 2022 Full Review Megan Garber The Atlantic The show carefully calibrates shtick and insight. Feb 23, 2022 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times The Afterparty is a witty satirical experiment so entertaining I'd be in favor a second season with a whole new reunion-murder. Rated: 3/4 Jan 29, 2022 Full Review Juanma Fernández París El Nuevo Día (Puerto Rico) The only rule for comedy in each episode of "The Afterparty" is that anything goes. The pleasant surprise of the show is how this is sustained in a creative, fun, and unexpected way. [Full review in Spanish] Dec 5, 2023 Full Review Sarah Ward Concrete Playground The cast is top-notch. The writing is clever. Surprises arrive frequently, and the throwaway gags — including the jokes involving Xavier's film career, cameos from other famous faces and magnificent 80s yacht-rock references included — are simply glorious Jun 25, 2022 Full Review Christopher James The Film Experience Its worth accepting the invite to iThe Afterpartyi, even if you might not be the best party of your life. The performances are fun, particularly from Tiffany Haddish and Ben Schwartz. Rated: B- Mar 30, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Shawn C This show is so dumb. I couldnt make it through the second episode. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Adrian R I was glad to see the sequel and everyone was great, but Aneq character is just to moronic I've never meet anyone in real life that was like that so it brought the series down for me, I would love to see a part three but with out this character Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/16/23 Full Review J Perfectly fine, has some fun and even funny moments, but the killer is too predictable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/12/23 Full Review chris S Everything I ever wanted in a show: Clever, witty, lovable characters, characters I love to hate, some favorite actors, hilarious song and dance scenes, animations, so much variety. Love how each episode is shown from the point of view of a single character. Absolutely top-notch everything. Love love love. I have to hand it to Apple+ TV for creating excellent adult shows that can be watched even if kids are in the house. The Morning Show, Ted Lasso, The Afterparty, and Slow Horses come to mind. These fantastic series prove that constant sex, sex talk, x-rated moments do NOT need to be part of a very engaging show. In fact, all of that distracts from it and adds nothing but useless shock treatment. I don't need to view anybody else's sex life. I.just.don't.care. I care about the unforgettable characters, superb writing and acting, and complex stories. BRAVO Apple+TV —you've figured out the formula for what we have been wanting for a very long time. Good stuff. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/18/23 Full Review Dave N The concept is interesting; the execution is poor to mediocre. Feels like it wants to be Only Murders in the Building but is nowhere near as sophisticated. Many of the attempts at comedy are quite crude and forced. The mystery and solution are standard cliched stuff (if you've watched more than a few murder mystery series or movies, you'll probably guess the killer by episode 2 - not from the evidence, but by knowing what uninspired mystery writers always resort to as a "twist"). I was entertained (particularly by episodes 6 and 8) but have no desire to see any more of it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
