Critics Consensus
Turning a high concept into a grounded good time, The Big Door Prize realizes its full potential thanks to a lovable cast of relatable characters.
Geordie Gray The Australian Immensely watchable and lighthearted... Apr 15, 2023 Full Review Carol Midgley Times (UK) ... A pleasant watch and also a thought-provoking one because it asks whether people are happier knowing about their latent possibilities or if it’s better you remain ignorant and content with your lot. Rated: 3/5 Mar 30, 2023 Full Review Heather Hogan Autostraddle The series is as interested in the butterfly effect as it is in the idea of metamorphosis... The Big Door Prize is curious about how people read their cards, why they read them that way, and whether or not they have the courage to do something about it. Mar 30, 2023 Full Review Sarah Ward Concrete Playground Life's mundanities and enigmas alike don't fit neatly and nicely into any one box — and nor does this engaging series. Jul 15, 2023 Full Review Lindsay Press Culturess This is a series about the importance of discovering potential and how understanding how one can wish for more for themself can encourage people to take on new directions or activities in life. May 23, 2023 Full Review Jason Fraley WTOP (Washington, D.C.) I’d recommend Apple's “Ted Lasso" or “Shrinking” first, but if you’ve already knocked those out, give it a shot. Watching “The Big Door Prize” is like drawing a Morpho card — it might not be what you think you’re gonna get, but it might be what you need. Rated: 3.5/5 May 17, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
J H A masterpiece of a show. Incredibly funny, good pacing, engaging plot, interesting mystery. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review JUAN A Demasiada homosexualidad, tolerable para mis ojos. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review Audience Member A refreshing family friendly romance/comedy/mystery. Really love the soul of this show and how it fleshes out so many characters and deals with the mental health aspect of people going through very different struggles. The mystery of the "machine" is great and all but the real magic of this show is the chemistry of the cast and the heart it has throughout. Highly recommend. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/06/24 Full Review Phoenix L Great concept that gets bogged by overstaying its welcome. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Robert Z A high concept show with heart and great characters. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/27/24 Full Review Chris K I like this show a lot. It’s kinda relaxing and there’s a mystery that keeps you with it for each episode. I can’t wait to start season 2. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
