Critics Consensus
Somewhere on the edges of this sci-fi vision is a compelling narrative, but The Peripheral's single-minded focus on its lofty ideas comes at the expense of character or coherence.
Karama Horne TheWrap If you are a fan of cyberpunk crime drama anime like “Ghost in the Shell” or “Psycho-Pass,” or are looking for something to scratch that “Westworld” itch, “The Peripheral” is a joy to watch. Oct 31, 2022 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald Based on the novel by William Gibson, it’s tough stuff lushly rendered. Oct 28, 2022 Full Review Brian Tallerico The Playlist "The Peripheral” is constantly throwing in new characters and ideas instead of pushing forward the ones it set up in the last episode. Rated: D Oct 22, 2022 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu A smartly-written and visually-arresting show from the ‘Westworld’ creators, ‘The Peripheral’ gives credit to the viewers’ intelligence and keeps us wanting more. Oct 4, 2023 Full Review Pramit Chatterjee Digital Mafia Talkies The lengths that the artists, along with the creator, the production designer, art directors, and cinematographers, have gone to in order to truly make a futuristic London and an almost futuristic rural American town is jaw-dropping. Rated: 4/5 Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Bethan Ackerley New Scientist Enjoy the many prophecies of The Peripheral’s twin futures. They might even come true one day, in our universe. But with such vivid, frightening worlds to get lost in, does that even matter? Jul 19, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
Jarren K Absolutely gripping visuals with interesting characters that you can really invest in. The acting is top notch. The concept of the storyline is great as well, but a little hard to follow at time. I may have to watch it over again to fully understand the cliffhanger at the end. I will gladly do so. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Larry H Even with a curtailed first season (cancelled) this is well worth watching. The characters are believable and the plot is interesting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/02/25 Full Review Amikigu d Like others here, I really hope someone makes a Season 2. Though even as a standalone season, this is really worth watching for so many reasons. The bonds between the friends and family surrounding Flynne are beautiful, and the actors really expressed what it means to care for each other and maintain solidarity and compassion in troubled times. T'Nia was wickedly fun to watch, and Alexandra Billings, Charlotte Riley, and JJ Feild were also witty and engaging in the London portion of the show. This is truly one of my favorite ensemble casts. SPOILER after this point. I especially liked that by the end of the season, Flynne and her family had dispatched the town oligarch and his henchmen, potentially ushering in a more egalitarian and caring rural power structure. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review Bill K This sleeper was the most amazing show! So sad it got cancelled due to the Pandemic and SAG strike. Story is a most excellent hillbilly Matrix vibe! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review Brum M Brilliant Sci-if, really enjoying the story and the characters and acting are very good. Binge watching as it’s one of those series you want to see what happens next. Real shame season 2 was cancelled especially as they are spending money on much poorer productions like rings of power ! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/07/24 Full Review Steven C This television show is spell-binding. At the end of Season 1, it is just getting started. I am so disappointed that the story lines started in Season 1 will not be explored. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews
