Critics Consensus
Despite decent performances, Walker's bland storytelling and limited action fails to fill its namesake's butt-kicking boots.
Roxana Hadadi AV Club I suppose that gives Walker room to grow in upcoming episodes, but for now, he's a Raylan Givens facsimile with extremely sanded-down edges. Rated: C+ Jan 22, 2021 Full Review Daniel Fienberg The Hollywood Reporter The annoying thing is that being a total failure as a remake of Walker [TR]... doesn't necessarily mean that Walker is a total failure as a TV show. It's just something different, and I wish it had just committed to being that different thing entirely Jan 21, 2021 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) There are no shortage of nods to the world today, but in the pilot at least none of them shifts the needle. It's improvement by increment: the plots aren't as corny, Padalecki can act. In many ways Walker is a show of small steps forward. Rated: 2.5/5 Jan 21, 2021 Full Review Sayan Ghosh The Hindu A forgettable reboot which takes itself too seriously. Sep 27, 2023 Full Review Carissa Pavlica TV Fanatic It seems like the people behind Walker want to focus on family drama. That would be an excellent choice if only it wasn't set up to be a procedural. Rated: 3/5 Mar 4, 2021 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media Western cop reboot hypes Texas Ranger family drama. Rated: 2/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
Rodney B The show is watchable, but Walker is portrayed as the absolute worst Ranger on the show. He looses fist fights, gets out performed by his female partner, and criminals get the drop on him. The screen writers missed the part about Walker is supposed to be a bad ass. Padalecki does good acting job here but the character isn't Walker. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/02/24 Full Review Amanda R Such a pity that the writer / producer decided to concentrate on the (very boring at times) family drama rather than crime and action. Nothing like the original series, which is its downfall. The actors are decent but the storylines and the lack of action mean that it has zero. I don’t know how it lasted four seasons. I’m only watching this one because I paid for it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review Stephen C I have seen a lot of hate on this show on here and I honestly can't comprehend it. Some people need to stop comparing it to the original, kick that out of your memory and after the first 2 episodes you start to enjoy it. The story lines are good and you really start to connect/understand the characters the more you watch. If you haven't gotten to season 2 of the show you honestly shouldn't be reviewing it. Great show and should not have been canceled, just needed more advertising in my opinion. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/03/24 Full Review Christine D Having watched the original I tried not to make comparisons, but I am somewhat disappointed. I can deal with the somewhat mediocre acting and lack of actual action, but the constant background music is annoying. Not every scene needs a song to explain emotions, or what is happening. If a show is good it does not need constant musical support. I watched the 1st 2 seasons hoping for improvement from the increasing soap like story telling. Sad, as there was much potential in the beginning. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/06/24 Full Review Josie S It was great until Jarred Padalecki started talking with pause between even two or three words. A bit like a record jumping. Weird. I can’t watch anymore. It’s annoying. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/12/24 Full Review Darneesha O I enjoy the show and its easy to watch with my little ones around.
