Critics Consensus

Transplanting Sherlock Holmes lore into a medical procedural, Watson conceit proves an awkward fit but gets a boost from the ever-watchable Morris Chestnut.

Kelly Lawler USA Today A patient-of-the-week drama gets crashed together with this half-hearted Sherlock mythology and the wheels fall right off. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times What we get is, more or less, a warmer, fuzzier version of “House.” Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Aramide Tinubu Variety With an endlessly charismatic Chestnut leading the charge, the addition of some much-needed backstories and a focus on medical mysteries and the people enduring them, “Watson” eventually finds more solid ground. Jan 26, 2025 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Watson jams Holmesian mythology, quirky doctors, and complex medical mysteries into stories that can’t really handle all three at once, and it shows in how none of it feels well thought-out. Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Tribune-Review The show’s serialized story about a figure from Holmes’ past who’s out to get him intrigues, but that’s secondary to the less interesting “doc-tectives” resolving medical cases. Jan 27, 2025 Full Review Randy Dankievitch Processed Media Watson‘s pilot holds a few twinkles of promise in its opening and closing acts, suggestions that while it may struggle when leading with its trite medical and interpersonal dramas, there’s potential for a more adventurous, thoughtful show. Audience Member Yawwwwwwwwwwn. I’ve paused. 30:21. Can’t go further. I thought I could. Can this writer seriously not think of anything better to do than scratch this bad ripoff of a very good show? It’s like a modern musician’s Gaba-dosed droney cover of a not-even-a-decade-old high-energy masterpiece. I’d rather fold socks. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Pratheep E I really enjoyed it. Just finished first episode. Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/25 Full Review J_ J Great acting and storyline can’t wait for another episode ,if you enjoyed House you will enjoy Watson. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/25 Full Review Antoine L Really, come on. This isn't even a really fresh idea. I'm watching House, The Resident, or Brilliant Minds with Watson inserted in a rather ridiculous way. Also, Moriarty could have been left out completely. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Jonathan K To me, this was a cross between Sherlock and House. Both shows are an amazing watch, so to combine them in great. I agree that Watson comes off a bit conceited, but it works. Holmes was conceited so it would have rubbed off. I say watch it. It's fun and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Joseph C The premise sounded interesting so I went in the hope but simply lost interest after the first 10 minutes. Maybe I will pick it back up again at some point and give it another shot. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
