Critics Consensus
Expanding on the saga while leaving plenty of room for callbacks to the original, this series-length sequel should satisfy fans who've been patiently waiting for more Willow.
Rebecca Long Observer The Disney+ Willow series was a breath of fresh air, harkening back to a bygone era of onscreen epic fantasy more focused on being delightful than profound. Rated: B May 17, 2023 Full Review Nick Schager The Daily Beast Sustained interest, however, will be stymied by a cast of largely bland new characters and, more pressing still, a dearth of sweeping excitement. Jan 30, 2023 Full Review Heather Hogan Autostraddle Willow gives us the lesbian Disney princess we've been waiting for, Jan 13, 2023 Full Review Alex Valencia Q+ Magazine It’s a fantasy series full of action, love, friendship, and beautiful landscapes. Like its predecessor, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, which helps balance the humor with the seriousness of the story. Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net The series knows its capacity for greatness. It’s tapping into it that proves most difficult. In turn, its lessons, some carried over from the past, feel more timeless than ever. Rated: 4/5 Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Pramit Chatterjee Digital Mafia Talkies There is a kind of simplicity, a sense of comfort, and an air of whimsy to the show that puts it right in the middle of the Shakespearean self-seriousness of The Rings of Power and the edgy self-seriousness of House of the Dragon. Remco V Loved it!!! Great story, very funny, pitty there won't be a second season... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/19/24 Full Review Ashley M I was deeply disappointed with Willow the TV show. While Kit had some relatable moments, like dealing with the loss of her father and being forced into a marriage she didn’t want, her character overall felt unlikable. The relationship between Kit and Jade seemed forced, as if the show played into stereotypical tropes by making the two tomboyish female characters lesbians. It would have been more interesting, and less predictable, if a character like the more traditionally feminine Elora were queer, which could have also provided a compelling reason for why she never left an heir. Boorman was one of the highlights of the show with his humor, but his comedic relief felt shallow at times. I wish his character had more depth to explain why he constantly used humor as a defense mechanism. As for the ending, it felt rushed and underdeveloped, leaving me frustrated with how things were tied up. The dialogue was another weak point, trying too hard to sound like modern teen slang, which pulled me out of the fantasy world. The extreme adoration of Elora also got tiring—every conflict with her was reduced to other women being "jealous," when in reality, Kit’s feelings toward Elora were more about resentment, not envy. Overall, the show suffered from underdeveloped characters and a messy, convoluted plot that made it difficult to fully invest in the story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Hannah M I really enjoyed this show. I found the characters to be compelling and I was intrigued by the story. It's a shame that Diseny was to much of a cowered to continue it. Diseny has continued to disappoint me by by it's refusle to to stand with the LGBTQ2+ community. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Niccolo L Disappointing that Val was not more involved. The show was watchable only because of nostalgia... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/22/24 Full Review Sean H Peter piper pipped a peck of pickled peppers. Bet Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review Bruna G Amazing series, it surprised me. I highly recommend it !! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
