The Limpopo Province is wild and enigmatic. It boasts long stretches of untamed wildermness with thorn and Baobab trees, magical mountain ranges and is also home to the Big 5.

Limpopo is named after the great Limpopo River that flows along its northern border and contains a wealth of historical and cultural treasures. It has many geological sites some of which are caves containing ancient rock arts. It also has an abundance of game reserves which offer awesome hiking trails through this exquisite land.

The Limpopo Province offers some of the most awesome wilderness hiking trails in the world. The Blouberg and the Wolkberg region are wild and practically untouched. Hikers are given the awesome opportunity to explore these spectacular mountain regions and deep, sometimes uncharted caves. The Waterberg Mountains stretch along more than 5 000 km2 of spectacular landscapes and scenic valleys.

The Magoebaskloof area boasts magnificent mountain scenery with tumbling waterfalls, isolated rock pools and lush indigenous forests. The Magoebaskloof Hiking Trail is situated on the escarpment close to the Limpopo Province town of Tzaneen. The trail offers several options from 2 to 5 days in duration. Trail huts along the route are in old forestry buildings or modern purpose-built wooden chalets. The trail will take you through lush indigenous forests through which sparkling mountain streams fall down.

The Taaibos hiking trail near Vaalwater is situated in the magnificent Waterberg Mountains. It covers the most beautiful areas of the Province including shimmering waterfalls and lush forests.

The Bateleur Nature Reserve is famous for its SATOA attributed Stamvrug Hiking Trails and consists of seven different circular and day trails laid out amongst the magnificent Waterberg Kloofs and Escarpments. Over and above the four dedicated 2 day backpacking trails, are three shorter day trails which can be enjoyed, either from the two base camps or from any of the farmhouses and cottages. The base camps offer excellent hiking facilities while the farmhouses and cottages offer more luxurious overnight accommodation.

Bateleur Nature Reserve caters for both novice and experienced hikers with differing levels of fitness and experience. Detailed descriptions, contour maps and advice on current conditions are available from reception on arrival, which will enable you to plan your hike. The reserve offers the awesome Kloof Trail, Porcupine Trail, Sebra Trail, Moepel Trail, Escarpment Trail, Game Trail and Leopard Trail ranging from 5-13 km.

The Limpopo Province is exquisitely beautiful with starry skies and long stretches of wilderness. It offers awesome and magnificent hiking trails in these beautiful terrains.
