The Wild Frontier Region, Mpumalanga
Situated in the south eastern part of the Mpumalanga Province, the Wild Frontier region shares borders with Mozambique, Swaziland and the southern tip of the Kruger National Park.
Did you know? Situated in the Wild Frontier, one of the world�s largest game parks, Kruger has received a myriad accolades for nature conservation and, more recently, has begun lowering fences that separate the park from neighbouring reserves, allowing the wildlife within even greater access to land and water, and increasing the chance to spot game.
The Wild Frontier is made up of the historic towns of Barberton, Komatipoort, Kaapmuiden and Badplaas amongst others. The region also holds rich historical sentiments for the people of Mozambique, because of the Samora Machel monument erected in a small village in this region where his plane crashed.
The Wild Frontier is referred to as the cradle of life, owing to the archaeological discoveries dating back more than three billion years. Evidence abounds in the imposing Mkonjwa mountains, which is said to be one of the oldest in the world.
Highlights of the Wild Frontier region include the historic town of Barberton (a fascinating reminder of the old gold rush days), Komatipoort, a major Southern African crossroad in the region, linking Africa�s diverse people. You could visit three countries in just one day: Swaziland, Mozambique and South Africa when you visit the Wild Frontier of Mpumalanga.
