About Green Mountain Eco Route

Based on the Overberg Tourism map, the Green Mountain Eco Route starts on the other side of Sir Lowry's Pass, as you enter Elgin Valley on the N2, from Cape Town.

Did you know? A number of resident artists offer art classes. Follow the old Cape ox wagon trail, visit historic farms, drive 4x4 trails and enjoy a variety of adventure sports.

The Green Mountain Eco route is not only home to the world's first biodiversity wine route 75 kilometres over the Groenland Mountains but it is also where the offical Green Mountain Eco Route meanders through the Elgin Valley, and the towns of Botriver, Caledon and Villiersdorp.

Highlights of the route include local gardens in Elgin Open Gardens weekends, local wine, the Groenlandberg Conservancy, the historical village of Houw Hoek, an art route in Villiersdorp, mountain bike trails, hiking trails, the Bot River Lagoon wetlands, Aasvol Mountain and Blokkop Peak, and endless fynbos vistas.
