Long Street in Cape Town (original) (raw)

About Long Street

Whilst Long Street is not really that long when it comes to roads in Cape Town and around the world, what it packs between its pavements and borders is truly vibey.

Did you know? Famous as the citys bohemian haunt, and one of the oldest streets in the city, Long Street lies in Cape Towns city bowl its Victorian-era buildings, complete with wrought-iron balconies, filled with second-hand book stores, antique stores, ethnic restaurants, trendy shops, backpackers, clubs and bars.

Long Street could be described as the funkiest and loudest street in Cape Town, bustling with markets and boerewors roll stands during the day and hosting parties of all kinds once the sun sets.

Once the vintage clothing shops and designers alleys are closed, attention is turned to the plethora of bars, restaurants, pubs and clubs lining this iconic road. This road is always busy but in the summertime locals and foreigners explore out onto the pavements at side walk cafes, sip cocktails beneath umbrellas and party on the rooftops.

Places like Kennedys, Long Street Caf and Mr. Pickwicks have firmly made their mark and still attract loyal customers. Newer restaurants such as Galbi, a Korean BBQ spot gather new followers in search of different tastes whilst Royale is still said to produce the best gourmet burgers in the Western Cape.

Once youve had your fill of pre-drinks and food, party the night away at Fiction with its mix of Indie, Drum and Bass or dubstep nights or the Waiting Room complements with a rooftop lounge, sexy soulful beats and Hip Hop nights bound to keep you grooving.

A word of caution; Whilst Long Street is busy on most nights, stay safe by not wondering off into quiet alleyways alone especially if youre new to Cape Town or youre female.

This is one place in the city where cabs will be ever present, so if youre drinking, get home safely by grabbing a cab.
