Stellenbosch Valley Wine Estates (original) (raw)

Stellenbosch is a world-renowned wine route in its own right. Its natural diversity includes mountains and valleys, each of which has different climates, soils and water-retention abilities. Therefore, the array of wines that can be produced under these very different conditions is made even more expansive.

The Stellenbosch Valley Wine Route was established more than three decades ago, and continues to be a roaring success amongst wine-lovers, whether experts in the field or simply laid-back quaffers. Still, the actual growing of grapes for wine production started here some 320 years ago, so this region is an established wine land that is acclaimed the world over for its excellent red, white, ros, sparkling and dessert wines.

Well-known wine labels along the Stellenbosch Valley Wine Route include Zevenwacht, JC Le Roux, Amani, Bottelary Hills, Meerlust, Bergkelder, Oude Libertas, Spier, Neethlingshof, and Welmoed. However, there are many more estates, each offering something different from the others; memorable in their own way.

Almost all of the wine farms offer wine tastings, and many offer cellar tours too. This enables visitors to get a taste of both the process and the product. Some of the farms are particularly idyllic and have restaurants or picnic spots (or both) to create the perfect ambience for a day of wining and dining with friends and family.
