Kragga Kamma Game Park, Eastern Cape (original) (raw)

Port Elizabeth is home to its very own game park. Nestled away in the suburb of Kragga Kamma you will find the Kragga Kamma Game Park.

Did you know? Take a drive in your own vehicle through the park on the well-maintained roads and enjoy viewing the game from the comfort of your car.

One would scarcely expect that, just a few hundred metres from the main road, there are some of Africas wildest species, exploring what has become their natural habitat. These species include giraffe, zebra, buffalo, rhino, a large variety of antelope, and even the usually-elusive cheetahs, which enjoy their own enclosure through which visitors can drive.

There are guided tours available, which have the added benefit of a trained, experienced guide who is able to point out species that may not have been immediately evident, and to answer questions. Self-drives are also popular.

The wildlife at Kragga Kamma has become accustomed to vehicles, and do not shy away from them, giving visitors an excellent opportunity to see them up close. There are also Cheetah Tours, which enable, even encourage, visitors to interact with these beautiful predators.

With more than 200 recorded bird species, avian enthusiasts should definitely bring along their binoculars and a birding book to help with identification. Known species include Fish Eagles, Sparrow Hawks, Jackal Buzzards and the beautiful Yellow-billed Kites. There is a boardwalk at canopy height, which allows for optimal views.

Kragga Kamma Game Parks facilities include picnic spots and braai facilities, as well as a restaurant-cum-coffee shop, and a small curio shop. Have your photograph taken with the tame cheetah who, while a powerful predator, seldom declines having his belly rubbed.

Self-drive tours require an entrance fee for adults and for scholars (up to 18 years). There is no charge for children up to six years of age. Guided game drives are available at a fee.
