Magalies Wild Game Farm has two major selling points: the first is that the farm lies so close to Johannesburg and Pretoria that weekends easily expand into a holiday's worth of downtime, without the endless drive to get there and back.
Did you know? Magalies Wild Game Farm lies within what was the Old Magalies Nature Reserve, not even 20 kilometres outside of the village of Magaliesburg, on the Rustenburg Road.
And the second is that the words �quiet bush getaway� are not merely marketing hype - by all accounts that is exactly what you get.
It is a privately run game farm of roughly 100 hectares, but it remains in its original wilderness condition, preserving both wildlife and plants.
People are protected too as there is no dangerous game, and walking anywhere on the farm is possible. You might find yourself in amongst zebra, impala, kudu, hartebeest, ostriches or warthogs during the day, and there is often evidence of night prowlers like porcupines and honey badgers.
Views from the farm are out over the Magaliesberg Mountains.
Enjoy early morning bush walks with the resident dogs, or chill out at the swimming pool. If you feel the need for further stimulation then it is a short drive to Maropeng, the Pilanesberg National Park, the Lion Park, the Sterkfontein Cave or Hartbeespoort Dam.
