Gauteng Tours (original) (raw)

Gauteng is the economic powerhouse of the Southern African region and home to Africas greatest cities. From the vibrant metropolis of Soweto, through dynamic Johannesburg to the tree-lined diplomacy of Pretoria, Gauteng is a cosmopolitan, multicultural mix of people from all walks of life, from all four corners of the globe ...

A ninety minute drive north-west of Johannesburg takes you to the Magaliesberg mountains, an area of great scenic beauty with superb rock formations, waterfalls, streams and masses of unique indigenous vegetation. Gauteng has several spectacular botanical gardens, bird sanctuaries and nature reserves and a veritable treasure trove of archaeological, paleontological and geological sites.

Visit Mrs Ples (distant relative of Homo sapiens) at the Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site, and the Wonder Caves with their impressive display of live stalagmites and stalactites. Drive to the Tswaing Meteorite Impact Crater, one of the youngest and best-preserved meteorite impact craters in the world where over 200 000 years ago a meteor travelling at 80 000km an hour crashed into the earth just north of present-day Pretoria with a force estimated to equal 65 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs.

See wildlife close up at the Lion and Rhino Park just outside of Johannesburg or visit the De Wildt Cheetah Research Station on the way to the scenic Hartbeespoort Dam.
