Houghton Golf Cub is a true jewel amongst the stones of the Gauteng Golfing fraternity. This is not to say, by any means that other courses in the area are sub-par, but rather that in comparison just how much Houghton Golf Club will exceed your expectations.

Based in the leafy affluent suburb of Houghton, the course finds itself a firm favourite amongst many of the Highveld golfing community. Houghton boasts of hosting eight South African opens, three of which were won by Gary Player and one which saw Ernie Els catapulted into international golfing limelight with his longstanding 15 under par record here. Houghton was also chosen to host the Alfred Dunhill Challenge, possibly the most prestigious golfing event in the Southern Hemisphere.

Designed in 1926 by A.M Copeland the club has now appointed the Jack Nicholas design group to take care of the improvements and changes to the layout ensuring that this South African great is kept up-to-date and abreast of changes in the modern game.

Every angle of the course is a visual masterpiece and no doubt a players treat too. Extremely well bunkered fairways that equally delight in water hazards play home to the most exquisite selection of local flora and fauna, including a wide range of birdlife.

Make no mistake � Houghton is indeed a South African, if not an international golfers, must-play. Facilities are an absolute marvel and though not overly long at 6 434 metres, the course will challenge you and certainly test your mettle.

Visitors will be please to know that play here is open to the public. However, it is highly recommended that you book your hotel or accommodation in Sandton and your tee-off times ahead to avoid disappointment.
