Mowbray Golf Club in Mowbray, Cape Town (original) (raw)

Located between the green suburbs of Mowbray and Pinelands, just 15 minutes from the Cape Town city centre and V&A Waterfront is the Mowbray Golf Club. The club that dates back to 1910 recently celebrated its centennial anniversary and what a tremendous 100 years it has been for them. Widely held as one of the best parklands courses in the country, Mowbray has hosted all the major amateur championships, several South African Opens and the prestigious Bells Cup on three occasions.

The course finds itself adjacent to the majestic Table Mountain Range and provides spectacular views of Devils Peak. The flat terrain on which Mowbray was designed has been compensated for by other challenges including numerous trees, water features and bunkers to keep you on your toes from start to finish. Being in close proximity to the coast course we cannot underestimate the value that winds play in improving our games. Purpose built and with the wind in mind, the Mowbray Golf Club holes were designed so that you will very rarely find it blowing in your face or interfering at your back.

Visitors will be please to know that play here is open to the public. However, it is highly recommended that you book your hotel or accommodation in Cape Town and your tee-off times ahead to avoid disappointment.

Mowbray has gained a reputation for hardly having to close the course due to adverse conditions during the wet season and some members swear that it never rains on the course! Thanks to this the year round playability has been exceptional.

The courses fairways are kikuyu and the greens are a mixture of fine grasses that succeed in providing excellent putting where bent has, here, failed. Not particularly long, the Par 71 course will challenge golfers so keep your driving straight and if you do head offline occasionally youll find a forgiving rough. There is a full set of facilities available.
