The Olivewood Golf Course in Cintsa, Eastern Cape (original) (raw)

The Olivewood Golf Course in Cintsa is just 40 kilometres from East London in the scenic South African province of the Eastern Cape. The 18-hole championship course is a prized feature of the Olivewood Private Estate and Golf Club, and attracts locals and visitors to savour the natural beauty and the welcome challenge of the undulating greens and fairways.

The natural contours of the land were used to create a course that is challenging, unique and fun. So, forested gullies, rolling hills and meadows are all part of the Olivewood experience. The fairways make their way down to the lagoon and river, and then back up to the 18th hole and clubhouse.

Tee positions, bunkers and water hazards have all been planned and positioned meticulously to create a superior course. The rough is quite short but is flanked by the long grasses of the bushveld. The greens have A1/A4 bent grass because this has been deemed the best putting grass in the world. Excellent drainage means excellent golfing conditions all year round.

The 15th hole is the courses signature hole. This is an interesting short hole with a par three that measures 128 metres from the white tees. This shot needs to go over dense bush to reach the green on the other side, which is guarded by two bunkers and slopes from back to front. When the prevailing east wind blows, golfers need to be even more vigilant about which club they choose for the 15th.

The Olivewood Golf Course is open from Monday to Sunday for some top-notch golfing during your time in the Eastern Cape. Book your accommodation in Cintsa and your tee-off ahead to avoid disappointment. This area is home to some breath-taking beaches too, and enjoys the warmer waters of the Indian Ocean, making it an excellent destination for the whole family.
