Along the silky stretch of white sand shores between Port Elizabeth and East London, two of the Eastern Cape�s largest cities, lies the comparatively quieter town of Port Alfred, and in it, the Royal Port Alfred Golf Club. Also known as the �warm heart� of South Africa�s �Sunshine Coast� Port Alfred lies on either side of the Kowie River as well as bordering the Indian Ocean.
The Club, established officially in 1907, is one of only four golf clubs in South Africa that have been granted the right to use �Royal� as a prefix. This comes as a result of several royal visits to the club between 1921 and 1925. On the sixth of February 1924 King George bestowed the Royal status upon the club after Her Royal Highness Princess Alice�s second visit and Prince Arthur�s high praise of the club.
A true �Links� course, the Royal Port Alfred also offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean, where whales can be spotted from the tees during winter and where you can play amongst the local springbok, impala, guinea fowl and more. Visitors are advised to book their accommodation in Port Alfred and tee-off times ahead to avoid disappointment.
As you should expect the 18 hole, 5800m course is meticulously looked after with firm greens and undulating fairways. Come and enjoy the full set of facilities in a true golfing atmosphere at one of South Africa�s must-plays.
