Good Night Market in South End, Eastern Cape (original) (raw)

Just five to 10 minutes away from most of the beachfront accommodation in Port Elizabeth is the Good Night Market. Every month, Port Elizabeth's artisans, musicians, foodies, and crafters get together to showcase their awesome innovations and to offer locals and visitors the opportunity to enjoy excellent flavours, quality and vibes. But, the Good Night Market is about more than this; all proceeds (including the R20 entrance fee) go to charity, and visitors are often asked to contribute a packet of rice or mielie-meal for those less fortunate. So, being part of this initiative combines fun and charity.

The market is open to the public on one Thursday evening of the month, from 17h00 to 21h00. So, many of the locals head straight to the market after work for some craft gin, cold beers, South African wines, or hot coffees with friends. But, its also great for tourists that have spent the day soaking up the sun or shopping. Meet the friendly people that PE is known for, taste local flavours, and get your hands on innovative handmade crafts from this area.

Come to the Good Night Market hungry because there is so much delicious food to sample and buy here. This ranges from Belgian chocolates to gourmet burgers; from Buddha bowls to fresh oysters. There are boerewors rolls, decadent pancakes, homemade ice-creams, and roosterkoek with gourmet toppings. The options are (almost) endless and make it very hard to choose.

The stalls also offer fun and quirky products like beard oil, activated charcoal products, jewellery, organic beauty products, leather accessories, and so much more.

The live music sets the scene for a laid-back evening; where around 2 000 people come to eat, drink and shop. There is a great area for the children too, which means that the market is suitable for families.

The market is right in the heart of the town, just minutes from the harbour and beachfront. The airport is less than 10 minutes away.
