About King's Beach

Port Elizabeth boasts a number of fabulous swimming beaches. Kings Beach is the largest and one of the most beautiful, as it is characterised by a 2 kilometre long stretch of flat sandy coastline with rolling dunes in the distance and warm, rock-free waters. It is ideal for children, as its waters are relatively calm, and there are lifeguards on duty during the week and on weekends.

There are also a number of freshwater swimming pools that border Kings Beach, as well as the surf lifesaving club, playgrounds, a skating rink, kiosks with food and refreshments, changing rooms, public toilets and a huge grassy area for picnics or ballgames. The Supertubes is just a few metres from the beach, and offers two exciting slides for young and old to brave.

Kings Beach is one of Port Elizabeths largest, most popular and most beautiful beaches. The warm water is safe for swimming and there is plenty of parking. However, the Mandela Bay Development Agency recently spent an impressive estimate of R42-million in revamping the beachfront to ensure that it is more aesthetically pleasing, safe and entertaining.

The new-look beachfront includes landscaped gardens, home to geese and other birds (both marine and terrestrial). There is also an extensive fresh-water lake, with benches along its banks and little bridges over the water. This revamp includes pathways, lighting, grassing, fencing of pool areas, upgrading the skate-boarding facility to include another really exciting rink, outdoor gym facilities, play equipment, and more.

Improved security and even more parking has ensured that the new makeover is practical too. Kings Beach remains Nelson Mandela Bays premier beach and this renovation will ensure that it continues to be the best of the Bay.
