Grootwater 4x4 Trail in Lephalale, Limpopo (original) (raw)

About Grootwater 4x4 Trail

Less than 300 kilometres from Pretoria and Johannesburg in Gauteng, and only 39 kilometres from Lephalale, is the magnificent Grootwater 4x4 Trail. This 30 kilometre route is a self-drive trail that takes between four and five hours to complete.

The Grootwater experience comprises a number of short 4x4 routes that are interlinked with a network of farm roads. These trails are made up of sand, rocks, mud and mountain roads that offer spectacular views and awesome vistas of the South African countryside. In summer (or the general period between October and March of every year), the rains come and create extra areas of mud and loosened ground or rock, which adds to the element of fun and adventure.

During your 4x4 excursion, keep an eye out for a variety of antelope species (including kudu and blue wildebeest), hyena, bush pig and warthog. The birdlife here is nothing short of astounding, and will provide keen avian fans with plenty to see and identify. This means that the 4x4 trails are made even more fun and intriguing for families and groups of friends that embark on them together.

In addition to the 4x4 trails, visitors to Grootwater are invited to go quad biking, hiking, canoeing and cycling in the area.
