The African elephant is one of the esteemed Big Five, and is renowned by visitors for its grace, power and beauty. The African Elephant Restaurant is situated in the scenic town of Sabie, in the heart of the Mpumalanga Province, and is dedicated to celebrating authentic South African cuisine, which is only enhanced by the fantastic views of the surrounding mountains of the Drakensberg. It shares its quiet, unassuming confidence with the animal that is its name�s sake.

The African Elephant Restaurant opened in February 2014, and was inspired by the need to have a place in which to relax with a plate of good South African food, stunning views, a glass of wine, and friendly service. All of these great features are offered at a reasonable price at the African Elephant.

Breakfast is served between 08h30 and 11h00, and the breakfast menu includes a number of popular favourites (such as traditional bacon and eggs, French toast, or muesli and yoghurt) for hungry risers, best enjoyed with a steaming cup of coffee. Later in the day, the menu offers a variety of snack baskets and light meals for the ideal noon bite. These comprise a combination of savoury pancakes, a range of burgers, salads, and toasted sandwiches.

In the evenings, hearty dinners include grilled springbok, beef fillet skewer, chicken schnitzel, mutton curry, ostrich fillet with creamy mashed potatoes, fish, calamari, prawns, oxtail, eisbein, pork ribs and the A-grade beef rump, sirloin and fillet. The homemade potato chips are always a big hit.

This restaurant is fully licensed, and visitors are invited to sample world-renowned South African wines, craft beers, draught beers and non-alcoholic cold drinks. The Illy coffees and cappuccinos are sure to warm you up from the inside on a cool Mpumalanga morning. The children�s play area is visible to the parents that are sitting inside and enjoying a hearty meal or a hot cuppa. Free Wi-Fi is available for your convenience.

The Kruger National Park is one of South Africa�s most visited and special tourist attractions, and it is less than an hour�s drive from the African Elephant Restaurant. Johannesburg and the OR Tambo International Airport are about 3.5 hours away.
