Bartinney Cellars in Pniel, Western Cape (original) (raw)

About Bartinney Cellars

Once described as the most beautiful valley on earth by a Harrods Director who first established the estate in 1920. The Manor House speaks of a Cape Dutch and English Tudor fusion with Elizabethan oak and fireback and Spanish leatherwork. Dr Michael Jordaan purchases the farm in 1954 and today the owners are fourth generation to farm this land. When Michael and Rose Jordaan bought the farm in 2006, they envisioned a charming estate and superb wines. Rose Jordaan took to planting over 5000 trees and fynbos on rehabilitated land. With a mesmerising view from the Helshoogte Pass and newly renovated cellar, that is precisely what had materialised.

Three of the main cultivars planted here are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay from low yielding vineyards grow on cooler elevated slopes whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon is planted in deep red soils on the slightly lower foothills. Winemaker, Therese de Beer, brings a wealth of experience and know how to this estate and demonstrates how to engineer great from a mountain.
