Napier Mountain Activities in Napier, Western Cape (original) (raw)

Surrounded by rolling farmlands, at the foot of the impressive Soetmuisberg Mountain Range in the Cape Overberg, is the sleepy little town of Napier. Graceful old homes and a deep sense of history infuse this part of the country to create an idyllic retreat. However, Napier Mountain Activities (NMA) is a local adventure company that invites adrenalin addicts from around the world to get a taste of the fun side of the Overberg.

NMA hosts a number of adventure activities. But, these are not all solely for those looking for a thrill. Some are tamer and more manageable for those that want an adventure to remember without the heart-stopping, stomach-lurching qualities. The packages organised by NMA include:

Abseiling
Explore the magnificent mountain ranges of the Cape with a view that is completely uninterrupted as you dangle from the mountain face.

Hiking
See the vistas, smell the fynbos and feel the warm sunshine as you taste and smell the real Africa. There are a number of trails, so individuals and groups are able to select a trail and route that works for them. Some take only a few hours and stay within the immediate vicinity, while others cover a number of days and showcase the area to perfection.

Portaledge
As the only commercial Portaledge in the country, this is a must. Sleep in a suspended tent on the side of a cliff for the most memorable night of your life.

Camping
Sitting around a fire in the outdoors, listening to the noises of the South African night is something few can forget. It is simultaneously dramatic and serene. NMA will arrange the perfect camp excursion in the wilderness or in a cave.

The LEGENDS tour
This week-long escapade comprises hiking, camping, kayaking, zip-lining, dune-boarding and abseiling through the Western Cape. A certificate at the end of it ensures that everyone knows what a legend you are!

These activities can be enjoyed separately, or NMA can put together a package that is made up of more than one of these adventures. There are no rules, and every trip is custom-designed for the specific group. These groups are kept small (from one to eight people) and each person gets safety gear. Photographs of your experience are provided.
