About Play in a Virtual Sound Studio

Calling all aspiring composers, musicians, sound engineers, DJ's, mixers and maestros. Would-be's, wanna-be's, kids and adults are invited to a multi-media sound experience for ages 6 and older at The SoundHouse. Up to 30 participants are facilitated at 15 workstations facilitate for musical expression through computer generated sound.

No formal musical training is required and with user friendly technology accommodating all levels, computer literacy is not necessary. The ability to play an instrument or read music is irrelevant as beginner courses teach how to create and produce music synthetically from introduction to final recording of a personally created CD.

Courses and once-off sessions run throughout the year during the school term and over school holidays. The educational value is as rewarding as the fun factor. Young children are introduced to the world of sound effects by adding special noises to stories. High school kids mix funky beats and adults finally become cool. Sound design, creative composition, sound conceptualisation, music making, recording and technical skills are acquired.

This educational music facility is endorsed by the Western Cape Education Department and UCT (University of Cape Town). Music combining assisted by computers is an innovative creative outcomes based exercise focusing on the role of sound in performing arts.
