Angler & Antelope is a 4 star graded guest house with self catering option, offering Somerset East accommodation for tourists and visitors of Greater Addo.

The Angler and Antelope is situated in the town of Somerset East in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The "complex" is securely fenced and includes the the 4-star (AA superior) Guesthouse, an old Roman Catholic Church (St Francis) where dinner and drinks are served, and Hobson's Choice Deli for breakfast and lunch.

Accommodation

The Guesthouse:
The Angler and Antelope Guesthouse consists of 7 bedrooms. Each room is individually decorated in simple Victorian elegance. The rooms are luxurious and spacious, with bathrooms to behold.

Six bedrooms each have air-conditioners, TV (3 with DSTV), cotton Percale, goose down and mohair blankets, and en-suite bathrooms with under floor heating. These bathrooms have bath, shower, double vanity and WC. Room configuration is 3 x twin rooms, 1 x double (with DSTV), 1 x king (with DSTV) and 1 x king/twin (with DSTV).

The 7th room is our standard room, with in-suite shower, vanity & WC, TV and double bed. All the rooms have coffee & tea making facilities, hairdryers, electronic safes, desks and multi plug / adaptors.

Self-catering suite:
Our self-catering suite has a fully equipped kitchen, bedroom and en-suite bathroom with a shower. The unit sleeps a maximum of 4 people. The bedroom features a queen sized and single bed, with an additional bed available in the kitchen/lounge area.

Family unit:
The family unit is semi self-catering with two bedrooms, lounge and bathroom. An outdoor braai area is available. The unit has a fridge, microwave and toaster.

Dining

The old Roman Catholic Church is now our culinary centre. Here we serve wholesome country cooking. Evening meals are available at an hour's notice 7 days a week. You can even have fresh trout - when available. Many people have remarked about the selection of over 40 whisky's (26 Malt whisky's) in Nigel's pub - inside the church. The bar caters for patrons of the guesthouse or private functions only, and is not open to the public.

Fishing

At the Angler and Antelope we specialize in fly-fishing. We have an in-house REFFIS (Register of fly fishing instructors and guides) accredited guide, one of only three Theta accredited fly fishing guides in the Eastern Cape.

Wild fly fishing in the Karoo is something special that must be experienced. There are 7 freshwater species that can be targeted on fly � trout (brown and rainbow), black bass, smallmouth yellowfish, moggel, mudfish, barbel & tilapia. We have access to private waters, where the only people permitted to fish are the guests of the Angler and Antelope. The Bankberg Troutfishers Club waters are also available to day visitors.

Attractions & Activities

Other activities on offer in the area are Big 5 game viewing, horse riding safaris, horse riding, quad biking, hiking & bird watching. In the town, there is also the Somerset East museum, in the old Wesleyan chapel dating back to before 1825, as well as the Walter Battiss Art Museum and many other historical building dating back to the early 1800's.

The town hosts events such as the Bruintjies Hoogte Cycle Fest - a 3 day mountain bike race as well as a road bike race (25, 50, 100 & 160km), the Bruintjies Hoogte Marathon (a Comrades qualifier) and the Castle Lager Biltong Festival.

The Angler and Antelope also stages events during the year. These events include a Mac Nab (shooting a buck, catching a trout and shooting a game bird in the same day), Hobson's Choice (catching a trout, yellowfish and black bass in the same day on fly) and other weekend specials like fishing / calligraphy combos. The Angler and Antelope also offers fishing clinics and corporate days with all meals catered.
