Eikelaan Farm Cottages is a highly recommended property for self catering in Tulbagh for anyone visiting the Cape Winelands region.

An outing to Eikelaan is viewed as a complete break from reality' and a total switch off from the buzz of the city life great for re charging the batteries and clearing the mind. The silence, peace and tranquility should leave you feeling totally relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated.

On offer at this neat working farm with wheat, vines, olives, sheep and cattle are three luxury self-catering cottages all fronted by an open vista of green fields merging into blue mountains an appealing contrast of the soft and rugged.

Self Catering Accommodation

The cottages are light and airy, fully equipped and decorated in natural hues and textures. Wide windows and double doors drench the interior in light, terracotta floors inject the rustic country edge, offset by warm sisal mats, natural cream curtains, crisp white linen and thick feather down duvets.

All have indoor fireplaces, making for cozy winters in a corner of the world where snow on the nearby mountains isn't uncommon. On the other hand, if you're dropping in during the summer months you'll be thrilled to know the units have air-con and overhead fans, as well as easy access to a swimming pool (with lapa).

Stepping outside, the cottages all have tiled patios and a broad stretch of green lawn, each with its own private braai.

Venturing further afield, the farm has three dams for dunking and fishing for bass, plenty of wide open space for bracing walks between high tea and dinner, cycling, as well as a barnyard of farm animals and nervous buck roaming the fields.

Activities and Attractions

A visit to the well known Church Street is highly recommended, this historic street has more heritage monuments in one street than anywhere else in South Africa. Tulbagh also offers excellent restaurants, olive estates, museums, arts and craft shops and numerous wine cellars. For the more adventurous, there are 4x4 routes, horse riding, MTB and hiking trails.

For a comfortable and undemanding weekend in the country that will suit both discerning locals and tourists, Eikelaan is the way to go.
