About Erica Chalet

Erica Chalet offers Stanford accommodation in the Phillipskop Mountain Reserve. The nature reserve is 10 minutes past Stanford on the lower slopes of the Klein River Mountains (around 30 minutes from Hermanus). The cottage is surrounded by beautiful natural vegetation that attracts a good variety of birdlife, and during your stay you are free to explore the reserve.

Self Catering Accommodation

Erica Chalet is a self catering holiday home in Stanford sleeping six guests. The master bedroom is furnished with a double bed and has an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and basin and views up towards Phillipskop. The second and third bedrooms are each furnished with twin beds, though the beds can be pushed together. One has a view over the valley, while the other is on the mountain side. The twin bedrooms share a bathroom fitted with a bath, shower cubicle, toilet and basin.

The kitchen has everything you might need, whether just for basic meals or more elaborate dining. There is a gas stove and oven, microwave, toaster and good sized fridge / freezer. The living area is open plan, has comfy seating and a log burning fireplace to keep you cosy in winter. The dining table can easily seat eight people around it. Upstairs in the loft area there is games equipment and desk space.

On the valley side of the cottage is a wooden deck, with wonderful views towards the Akkedisberg and across the Overberg in the direction of Gansbaai. On the mountain side, we have provided a dedicated braai area looking up towards Phillipskop and a small garden.

Experience

The reserve is home to a local heritage site, which protects the only recorded rock art on the Cape Whale Coast. For those who would like to discover more with an expert, we also offer guided walks.

The reserve protects 246ha of the Klein River Mountains. Over 500 species of plant are found on the reserve. There are a number of hiking trails for all abilities that take one to a waterfall, fascinating rock formations, or up to the peak of Phillipskop itself for spectacular views.

Phillipskop Cave is a short walk from the cottages and is a local heritage site with rock art painted by the Khoi and San over 1000 years ago. Near the cottages is the Lily Pond that is a lovely place to cool off on a hot day.
