Marloth Bush Retreat is a highly recommended property for self catering in Marloth Park for up to 8 guests visiting the Wild Frontier region.

Marloth Bush Retreat is a tranquil and comfortable, self-catering thatched hide-away situated in Marloth Park, which in turn, is situated on the southern border of the Kruger National Park, in an area known as the Wild Frontier. Marloth Park is a proclaimed conservancy and also adjoins Lionspruit, a nature reserve that is home to four of the Big Five.

A wide variety of game and about 300 bird species are found around Marloth Bush Retreat in untamed bushveld vegetation. No fences around the retreat means that the animals roam freely between properties. The close-up interaction with Africa's animals is truly thrilling.

Self Catering Accommodation

The guest house accommodates eight people comfortably in four double bedrooms which all have en-suite bathrooms. One bedroom has a double bed and three bedrooms have twin beds. One of the bedrooms is upstairs. Here there is a pleasant deck. Two of the other three bedrooms walk out onto the patio.

Linen and towels are supplied, but please bring your own swimming towels. Two cosy little lounges and wildlife magazines enhance your retreat into the bush. There is also a TV with DStv (for which you do not have to bring your own decoder card) and free Wi-Fi.

Ceiling fans are installed throughout and mosquito screens are fitted. The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove with oven, microwave oven, fridge-freezer and all other necessities. There is a built-in barbecue on the patio and should you prefer not to cook, there are several restaurants and pubs close by.

A splash pool adjoining the entertainment area is a wonderful way of cooling off on a hot summer's afternoon.

Activities and Attractions

Animals one is likely to encounter from the patio are zebra, kudu, impala, wildebeest, giraffe, common duiker, bushbuck, warthog, chacma baboons, vervet monkeys, banded mongoose and, at night, large spotted genet, African wild cat and sometimes hyena.

African night sounds of the lions roaring, hippos grunting and hyenas calling are part of the bush experience. Elephant and buffalo and waterbuck, among other animal species,can be seen feeding in the Crocodile River, which is the boundary between Marloth Park and the Kruger National Park.

This is a birdwatcher's paradise and one may see species such as the eastern nicator, cut-throat finch, white-bellied sunbird. Yellow-billed, red-billed, African grey hornbill, crowned and trumpeter hornbills can be found here (although not all species of hornbill are abundant!). Raptors fly overhead and waterbirds can be seen around the dams and in the Crocodile River. The iconic sound of an African fish eagle's call calms even the most stressed soul.
