Sea Breeze Kommetjie in Kommetjie, Cape Town (original) (raw)

Sea Breeze Kommetjie is a 4 star graded property offering Kommetjie accommodation for up to 8 guests.

Situated in the secure Klein Slangkop private estate, within a lively fishing village sandwiched between mountain and sea.

Accommodation

The house sleeps up to eight people in three queen-sized and one twin bedroom. Three of the bedrooms open through sliding doors onto timber decks downstairs, giving continuity between the space inside and the views outside. The downstairs bedrooms are serviced by two bathrooms, one with a bath and one with a shower.

Upstairs, in the gorgeous en-suite bedroom, a window at eye-level from the bath frames a spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean, Chapman's Peak, Noordhoek Peak, Karbonkelberg and the top of Table Mountain.

Weathered and worn furniture and seaside decorations link Seabreeze to its surroundings, while African artefacts, classic candlesticks and Oriental carpets, give the place a sense of timelessness that contrasts with the bold colours of contemporary dcor.

Facilities

The large, fully-equipped kitchen with all mod cons makes self-catering a pleasure, and the open-plan dining room-cum-lounge, with its choice of bench seats, bar stools, comfy chairs, cushions and beanbag chairs give every excuse for relaxation.

A hammock and daybeds on the deck provide the perfect place for lounging outside, protected from the prevailing south-easterly wind in summer, while a decadent outdoor Jacuzzi outside allows for further laying back.

Al fresco cooking is easy thanks to the built-in barbecue and picnic bench table, both sheltered from the south-easter. A family room with plasma-screen satellite TV and DVD player, books and a life-size doll's house, provides indoor entertainment for all ages.

Attractions

Only 100 metres away is the shore of Long Beach, an extensive stretch of white sand leading all the way to the village of Noordhoek. Walking this beach one passes the 1901 wreck of the Kakapo and is often passed by horse-riders from either the Imhoff's Gift or Noordhoek stables, which offer horse-riding for all levels of experience.

The area is excellent for surfers, who are drawn to Long Beach for its consistent surf and good waves. It is also popular with kite-surfers and windsurfers (when the north wind blows) and with canoeists and kayakers when the sea is calm.

Within a half-hour drive are the African penguins at Boulder's Beach and Cape Point in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Just 20 minutes away is the quaint naval town of Simonstown and the arty village Kalk Bay, while the city of Cape Town is just 45 minutes away by car.

A four-star grading gives Seabreeze a formal stamp of approval, but it's the fact that visitors want to return to its stylish beach comfort that says it all.
