About Somerset Lodge

Somerset Lodge is graded as a 3 star hotel by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa. It is a full service hotel and guest house with restaurant and is noted for its traditional menu. It is the only 3 star hotel in the area and therefore ideally suited in terms of price for the mid range traveller.

Somerset Lodge is a spacious family owned hotel and guesthouse with a warm friendly atmosphere and comfortable en suite bedrooms. It is the oldest recognised resting spot for travellers in the area, the original Cape Dutch farmhouse dates back to 1850. What was the original horse and carriage changing station in Somerset West in 1895, Somerset Lodge is now a popular destination for both business and holiday travellers.

Dining

The restaurant offers a full a la carte selection and includes game specialities such as ostrich, springbok, kudu, warthog and crocodile tail. Guests can enjoy one of our daily lunch specials in either the dining area or under a canopy of vines in the court yard. Relax in our local, the "Arksey Village Pub" where you can sip a long refreshing drink or splash out and sample some of the fine Scotch, Irish and single malt whiskies from Simon's famous collection.

Location

Somerset Lodge is ideally situated between the sea and the Cape Winelands and is the perfect base for your stay in the Western Cape. Beaches, mountains, wine farms, shopping, golf are all within a few minutes drive. The first time visitor to our area could be forgiven for believing they had arrived in paradise. Rarely does a destination offer everything a visitor could wish for, sea, mountains, climate and lifestyle. Somerset West has it all.

Attractions & Activities

Fishing, diving, snorkelling, boat cruises, swimming, beaches, surfing and whale watching are all available. The magnificent blending of the two oceans, Indian and Atlantic can be viewed from Cape Point. From Steenbras dam you can view all of False Bay, from Strand to Muizenberg and across to Table Mountain.

The Helderberg Mountain towers over Somerset West. From the nature reserve there are numerous walking and hiking trails geared for children and adults alike. For the more adventurous there is the notorious Suicide Gorge over Sir Lowry's Pass through Grabouw and Elgin into the Overberg.
