Festa dei Ceri Schedule 2023 – Saturday May 27

6.15 AM – 7.45 AM (LA SVEGLIA) 90 MINS

Drummers will commence at 6AM from the S. Ubaldo Cultural Center (310 Third Avenue, Jessup) and walk throughout town to wake up the dignitaries of the day.

7.30 AM -9AM (LA BANDA) 90 MINS

The Valley View High School band will process through town playing the music of the Ceri for all to enjoy.

8.00 – 8.30 AM (VISITA AL CIMETERO) 30 MINS

Meet at entrance of St. John’s Italian American Cemetery entrance (Primo Saldi Drive, Jessup) for a procession into the cemetery AT 8.05 Sharp, a prayer service and a wreath laying in honor of all past ceraioli/ceraiole.

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE CEMETERY VISIT: - 10.15AM (COLAZIONE CERAIOLA/MAZZOLINO DI FIORI)) 75 MINS

Breakfast for those participating in the day will be hosted by the S. Ubaldo Society at the S. Ubaldo Society Cultural center (310 Third Avenue, Jessup). The Mazzolino di Fiori (or flower pinning) will also take place at this time for all ceraioli/ceraiole at the S. Ubaldo Society Cultural Center (310 Third Avenue, Jessup)

10.30 (LA SANTA MESSA) 30 MINS

A mass in honor of S. Ubaldo will be held on the steps of the S. Ubaldo Cultural Center 310 Third Avenue, Jessup

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING MASS – 11.30 (L’USCITA DEI SANTI/ ANNOUNCEMENT OF 2024 CAPITANI) 30 MINS

All Ceraioli/Ceraiole are asked to assemble inside of the S. Ubaldo Society Cultural center (310 Third Avenue, Jessup) to remove all needed artifacts used during the Corsa dei Ceri. At this time, the saints will leave the chapel and be placed on a carrier to lead in the procession to the Old St. Mary’s Church

11.30 – 12.00 PM (PROCESSIONE DEI CERAIOLI E SANTI) 30 MINS

Procession of Saints, Ceri and all ceraioli/ceraiole to the Old St. Mary’s Church, Jessup

12.00 (L’ALZATA) 30 MINS

Alzata or Raising of the Saints to take place at the old St. Mary’s Church, Jessup

12.30 – 1.40 PM (LA MOSTRA) 70 MINS

Each Ceri will be paraded through town, stopping at the homes of past ceraioli/ceraiole.

1.50 PM (LA SOSTA DEI CERI)

All Ceri will be displayed together after La Mostra at Franco Lorenzetti's Home on Church Street.

2.00 – 3.00 PM (IL PRANZO DEI CERAIOLI) 60 MINS

Luncheon to take place at the S. Ubaldo Society Cultural Center (310 Third Avenue Jessup)

4.10 – 4.20 PM (L’ATTESA PER IL SANTO)

Ceraioli/ceraiole, dignitaries and guests will gather at the S. Ubaldo Society Cultural center (310 third Ave, Jessup) in preparation of the procession of the large statue of S. Ubaldo

4.20 PM (PROCESSIONE DELLA STATUA DI S. UBALDO)

The large statue of S. Ubaldo will leave the S. Ubaldo Society building promptly at 5 PM and process the route (in reverse) of the Corsa to meet at the start. The Saint Ubaldo Society invites all who wish to carry the large statue to do so, respectfully.

5.30 PM (LA CORSA DEI CERI)

The annual Corsa dei Ceri will start on Powell Avenue in Jessup and wind through the streets of town – ending in Veterans Memorial field.

FOLLOWING THE END OF THE CORSA (PROCESSIONE DEI CERI E SANTI ALLA CAPPELLA DI S. UBALDO)

All artifacts used throughout the day will be processed back to the S. Ubaldo Society Cultural Center from Veterans Memorial field

FOLLOWING ARRIVAL OF SAINTS AND ARTIFACTS TO THE S. UBALDO SOCIETY CULTURAL CENTER (IL FINALE)

Once all artifacts are returned to their resting position until next year and the large S. Ubaldo is in place, a closing prayer will take place followed by singing of Oh Lume Della Fede at the S. Ubaldo Cultural Center (310 Third Ave, Jessup)
