THE HISTORY
A period of turmoil preceded the construction of the Hohenwerfen Castle in Salzburg. Political unrest and the investiture conflict made it necessary to build fortified sites for the archdiocese, and thus Hohenwerfen Castle was built in the year 1077 under Archbishop Gebhard.
